QNED technique

LG QNED816: QNED technology

LG QNED816: QNED technology

A QNED screen has a special technology. That's because the screen has a layer of Quantum Dots that filter unnecessary light. As a result, the screen only lets in the right colors. Thanks to the 10-bit panel, the TV has a color gamut of more than 1 billion colors. In combination with the QNED technology, you'll see the most subtle color tones in a rainbow, for example.

LG QNED866: QNED technology and Mini-LED

The QNED866 has the QNED technology and a 10-bit screen as well. In addition, this TV has Mini-LED backlight. This means that there are thousands of individually illuminating and dimming LED lights located right behind the screen. Thanks to this, you can enjoy deeper black levels and a higher brightness. So the Milky Way will really stands out against the dark universe.

Sound

LG QNED816: 20W

LG QNED816: 20W

The LG QNED816 has 2 speakers with a total output capacity of 20W. Thanks to this, the audio is clearly audible, but not great. This TV doesn't have a built-in subwoofer or soundbar. As a result, you won't hear as much of the bass and treble. Explosions or high-pitched voices don't sound as realistic due to this, for example. For room-filling audio, we recommend a soundbar with this TV.

LG QNED866: 40W and subwoofer

LG QNED866: 40W and subwoofer

The LG QNED816 has 2 speakers, but a total output capacity of 40W. This TV also has a built-in subwoofer. That's why the audio is better than with the QNED 816, because you'll also hear a realistic bass. We still recommend a soundbar. An excellent image quality should have excellent audio as well. You can only get this with special sound equipment like a soundbar.

Design and size

LG QNED816: flat design with half-round stand

LG QNED816: flat design with half-round stand

The QNED816 has a flat design with a half-round stand. That's why you barely notice it when it's standing on your TV cabinet. Thanks to the thin bezel around the screen, the image takes up almost the entire screen. You won't see a black border around the screen because of this.

LG QNED866: same design but an inch size smaller

LG QNED866: same design but an inch size smaller

The QNED866 has exactly the same design, so it doesn't matter which one you buy in terms of the design. Keep in mind that the QNED866 isn't available in a 50-inch model, in contrast to the QNED816. You can hang both televisions on the wall with the wall mount. You can easily purchase this separately.

Conclusion

The LG QNED816 and LG QNED866 look very much alike, but they differ in terms of image quality and audio. Both televisions display rich and pure colors. Thanks to the Mini-LED, the QNED866 has a stronger contrast and higher brightness. The sound of the QNED866 also sounds more realistic thanks to the built-in subwoofer.
