Expert review LG HU810PW Cinebeam

With the LG HU810PW Cinebeam, you can change your living room into a home cinema. This promising laser projector displays 4K images with HDR support to a projection size of 300 inches. In this review, I test the projector and I'll explain the most important specifications.

LG CineBeam HU810PW

  • The 4K Ultra HD resolution and HDR support provide a sharp, realistic projection.
  • With the keystone correction and lens shift, you can easily adjust the projection to your liking.
  • On the webOS smart platform, you can easily stream movies and series from Netflix, YouTube, and Videoland, for example.
  • The projector is less suitable for (large) illuminated rooms like classrooms.

First impression of the LG HU810PW Cinebeam

First impression of the LG HU810PW Cinebeam

The LG HU810PW Cinebeam is a white projector with black and gray details. The bottom of the projector is slimmer, which makes it seem like it's hovering. Even though the projector is quite large and heavy, it easily blends in with the interior of our studio thanks to its sleek design. Besides the projector, I find a power cord, remote, manual, and protection caps in the box. I connect the projector to the power and turn it on.

Easy setup

I start with a manual setup of the projection. I find 2 dials under the lens, a focus button and a zoom button. While I look at the projection, I focus the projection within a couple of seconds by slowly adjusting the slider. With the zoom button, I make sure that the projection falls onto the screen. And with the dial on the side, I move the image slightly upwards. The image looks good without using the lens shift and keystone correction in the settings.

Sharp, colorful images

To test the quality of the projection, I select a nature documentary in 4K resolution. I'm impressed by the image quality right away because of the wide HDR color gamut and the sharpness of the projection. The colors of the projection can look a little dull with other projectors, but they really pop on the projection screen with this one. I also easily distinguish small details in the image, like the grass blades behind the cow or the bead eyes of a parrot.

Contrast light and dark LG HU810PW Cinebeam

Good contrast

In the colorful, bright images, I saw a clear contrast between different color tones and lines. I chose a dark scene to test the contrast between light and dark. With an image of the earth at night, I clearly see the brightly lit cities against the black earth. It's a good contrast, but the lines are a little unclear. This doesn't bother me, but it's visible if you focus on it.

Extensive webOS smart platform

Extensive smart platform

The LG HU810PW has the extensive webOS smart platform. The menu appears as a row of tiles at the bottom of the screen. Here, you can select your favorite content on apps like Netflix, Disney+, and YouTube. It's even more fun to navigate through the menu with the included LG Magic Remote. It works kind of like a magic wand, you simply point at the screen and navigate by moving the remote.

Inputs on the LG HU810PW Cinebeam

Enough inputs

The smart platform offers content for many movie nights, but you can also easily connect a laptop or console to the projector. I see 3 HDMI ports, including a 2.1 port with ARC and eARC support. With this port, you'll also be able to transfer 8K images. At the moment, not much 8K content is available yet, but you'll be prepared for the future with this projector. Besides the HDMI ports, I also see 2 USB-A ports, 1 optic audio output, and a network connector to connect to the internet.

Audio test LG HU810PW Cinebeam

Decent sound

And lastly, I tested the sound. The audio sounds decent, and I can easily distinguish the different instruments during a concert. The speakers of the projector have some difficulty with the treble and bass though. If you choose this projector, I recommend you to purchase a soundbar or other external speakers. That way, you'll be sure your home cinema really feels like a night out.

Conclusion

The LG HU810PW Cinebeam is a must-have if you're looking for a home cinema projector. This projector projects colorful 4K images with a strong contrast, so you won't miss a single detail. Besides the image quality, the connection and streaming options are a big plus. For the real home cinema feel, I recommend you to purchase an external speaker or soundbar.
