How do I register my drone?
You bought a drone and are ready to take to the skies. But before you take off, there are a few things to take care of: registering your drone with the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt (LBA). Don't worry, the registration process is easier than you think. In this article, we explain how to register your drone step by step.
Why do I have to register my drone?
You have to register your drone if it has a camera or weighs 250g or more. That way, you meet the requirements of the EU Drone Regulation. The goal of registration is to ensure safety in airspace and the protection of privacy. You can find more information on the LBA website.
Where and how do I register my drone?
Follow the steps below to register your drone.
1. Go to the LBA website and register
2. Pay the fee
3. Receive an electronic registration number
4. Attach the registration number
Step 1: go to the LBA website and register
Go to the LBA website and open the drone registration section. It'll ask you to register with your personal details. Please note that the minimum age for registration is 16 years. You also need a valid e-mail address.
Step 2: pay the fee
Registration currently costs € 20, which you pay right away when you register. This is a one-time fee that's valid for multiple years.
Step 3: receive the electronic registration number
Once your registration with the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt is completed, you'll receive an electronic registration number. This number is used to identify your drones and links them to your user account. Registration can take up to 2 weeks, so allow this time before you send your drone into the air. This is important, because it's used to clearly identify your drone in case of an inspection or an accident.
Step 4: apply the registration number
As soon as you receive the registration number, place it on your drone in a clearly visible spot. It's best to use a small, weatherproof sticker to make sure the number is permanent. This number allows you to operate multiple drones under the same user account. Just make sure that each drone clearly shows the number. That way, you can take off safely and in line with the rules.
Extra batteries for longer flights
Did you forget to charge the battery or are you going on a longer trip? It's useful to have a spare battery at hand. This provides you with more flexibility on the go and you can fly your drone for longer. View all our batteries here.
