This allows you to determine the light very precisely, and to increase or decrease your depth of field. Besides that, you have, when the camera supports this, full communication with the body. This gives you a super fast autofocus, and both an optical and an electric viewfinder.

Lens for beautiful Bokeh lovers!

Center sharpness excellent at 1.4

Makes a little noise when focusing

The 35 1.4 has a nice Bokeh and a very good center sharpness, which was the most important thing for me when purchasing this lens. The lens is very small and compact and is therefore no reason for me to prefer the 35 2.0 over this one. Distortion is nil. The build quality is by Fuji standards... excellent. The front lens slides in-out a bit when focusing but nothing dramatic. When focusing, there is also a bit more noise than, for example, an 18-55 (comparable to the 23 1.4) The 35 1.4 is definitely a top lens and definitely recommended if you have the same expectations as me (see my plus points) Very highly recommended!

The XF 35mm is one of the oldest lenses still available in the Fujifilm catalog, and it has had such a long life for a reason: it is one of the best price/performance propositions from Fujifilm offering a fast aperture with beautiful creamy bokeh for under 500eur with no compromises to build quality or optics. The only downside is its focusing motor which is quite noisy and may be very obvious if shooting in a quiet environment. Also, the focusing speed is not the fastest, so if shooting action scenes is your thing, the newer XF 35mm f/2 WR is a better option.
