The optical quality is incredible. Even at f/1.4, the photos are very sharp with a lot of contrast. I haven't discovered any vignetting or chromatic aberrations yet. The buttery bokeh gives you a nice isolation of your subject from the background. This is truly one of Fuji's gems.
The focus is accurate and fast! Still not DSLR-fast, but impressive compared to other system camera lenses. Like the 14mm f/2.8, the 23mm also has the 'focus clutch ring', which means that you click the focus ring down to focus manually. I find this much more pleasant than having to search the body for the focus mode button. You also have a visual indication of your focus distance (in m and ft.). You also have a depth-of-field scale, which gives this lens even more of that retro look.
The lens is very solidly built, almost completely made of metal.
