For mastering and mixing I was looking for a few affordable studio monitors. Pretty soon I came across this entry-level model. Mainly because of the price. After some research and having read many reviews (both positive and negative) on reputable audio websites, I decided to order the Pioneer DM-40 in order to be able to judge for myself. They came in this morning and returned this afternoon. There is nothing to fault about the design. The speakers are simple, but beautifully designed. The connection is limited and therefore quite idiot-proof. And for those who work in a small studio or environment, the size is definitely a plus. The big downside for me was the overall sound. Despite the fact that the high and middle tones came out quite well, the low tones really missed the mark for me. There was simply not enough punch in the bass that is essential in dance music. In general, I like the sound of this set, but not worthy of Pioneer.
