This new generation G2 is clearly much more solidly built and is also dust-proof and in addition, the lens hood and its attachment are much more robust. This lens also reacts faster. If you want really sharp images you generally stop at 500mm because 600mm demands the absolute utmost of the lens and that is visible in the quality of the photos (Sharpness).
