According to our camera lens expert
The Venus LAOWA 100mm f/2.8 2x Ultra-Macro APO Lens Nikon AI is a macro lens for your Nikon SLR camera. You can focus manually with this lens. This way, you can determine the focus point yourself. Thanks to the focal length of 100mm and a maximum zoom of 2x, you can capture your subject life-sized. This is useful when photographing tiny details or insects, for example. The maximum aperture of f/2.8 allows you to even take clear photos in dark situations and create a nice background blur. This lens has a chip and motor that control the aperture. This means that the lens works with an open aperture and it only closes when you release.

I use the LAOWA 100mm on my Nikon D300s APS-C body (becomes a 150mm due to the crop factor) and Nikon Z6 full frame mirror less Body. Contrary to what is stated in the description, that the lens contains a chip is not correct. That is only for a certain edition for Canon. The Nikon version uses the mechanical transmission of the aperture position through AI. This only works on a DSLR body and not on the Z series. Thanks to the AI system, the image in the viewfinder is always clear with a DSLR. With the mirrorless Z series, you can immediately see the end result in your viewfinder or on your screen. I see the fact that the lens has manual focus more as an advantage than a disadvantage. For macro photography you have to manually set your focus in most cases, and by means of focus peaking you can easily and relatively quickly focus manually on a Z series body. If you have a DSLR and a Mirror less body, I would always go for the F-mount, then you can use the lens on both bodies.
