compared to my old RT-AC68U less range, but faster

Usually I don't give much importance to negative reviews, but the comments about the range are unfortunately true. Everything is relative, of course, because it always depends on what you compare with.

I have now bought the RT-AX58U and can compare 1 to 1 with my old RT-AC68U. The range in 2.4GHz is deplorable (3 meters less and so 3 rooms are now out of reach) and let it be the reason that I was looking for a new router, increase the range even more, so that I can use the old RT-AC68U via aimesh could cover the whole house. Now it turns out that the new one doesn't even get as far as the old one, so I can't place the old one where I was hoping to cover the whole house.

I'm hesitant to return the RT-AX58U and maybe make some money for an RT-AX86U. (only positive reviews about reach)

I only have a few WiFi 6 devices (only my S10) but I still want to be ready for the future.

Bought this router as an addition (an AiMesh point) to my Asus RT-AX88U router. I was already very satisfied with my Asus RT-AX88U, but I just needed a little more range in 1 place in my house. At the time of writing, the RT-AX55 is one of the cheapest AX/Wifi-6 routers available. On Tweakers, only 1 TP-link AX router is cheaper, but it can't do AiMesh. So it is certainly the cheapest Wifi6 AiMesh router. That cheapness may also be reflected in the build quality. It feels a bit plastic, especially compared to the RT-AX88U it certainly feels/is cheaper. From packaging to materials used. Don't get it wrong, it's certainly not bad! And a less luxurious box/packaging that you throw away anyway, what difference does that make? The router is compact and has 4 antennas that you can point. These antennas are permanently mounted on the router. I don't think that's a bad thing, but it might be for someone else. I have set the router as an AiMesh point here. This was very easy to do via the Asus App that I already used with the RT-AX88U. Connect cables, power on, search for a new AiMesh router. The router was soon found, click on "set as " and in 5 minutes the router was running in the AiMesh setup here. Then took the router to the place in the house where I wanted it. (I chose to connect it wired) With Maximum Speed 2.4GHz 574Mbps and Maximum Speed 5GHz 1.201Gbps, it is certainly not the fastest and may not be the most suitable solution for “real” gamers. For me this was a great solution. With this extra AiMesh point, I now have good WiFi throughout the house and I can now also stream above 4K without any problems. All in all I am very happy with the purchase. A great AiMesh router for the price. How the router will perform as a standalone router is a bit more difficult for me to say.
