Do you choose a gas cooktop or an induction cooktop?
Everyone cooks in their own way, but which cooktop is most suitable for it? Induction or gas? In this article, we'll tell you what the advantages and disadvantages of each type are. That way, you'll know exactly which suits you best.
Gas and electricity connection
If you have a gas connection, we recommend a gas cooktop. Want to save energy and switch to induction? It's important to check a couple of things first. For example, you first have to check which energy connection you have in your kitchen. It's important to have a socket suitable for stoves, because most electric cooktops are connected directly to the socket via a cord in Germany. Contact a qualified electrician for the connection.
Which cooktop suits me?
| Gas cooktop | Induction cooktop | |
|---|---|---|
| You want a very safe cooktop. | No | Yes |
| You want to experience a complete cooking experience. | Yes | No |
| You like to cook with a wok often. | Yes | No |
| The cooktop needs to be easy to clean. | No | Yes |
Which cooktop is the safest?
Gas
Some gas cooktops automatically switch off the gas supply if the flame goes out or the cooking time is unusually long. However, this isn't the case with all models. If you forget to switch off your gas hob, your kitchen will smell of gas and there's a risk of explosion. After cooking, the cooktop stays hot for a long time, which could burn you. This is particularly dangerous if you have small children in the house.
Induction
An induction cooktop is much safer than a gas cooktop. If there's no pot on the hob, it doesn't work. So if a child switches on the hob and puts their hand on it, nothing happens. If you remove the pot after cooking, the hob switches off automatically. There's still some heat left on the glass ceramic cooktop, but it cools down quickly. That's useful if you often switch off your cooktop too late or have small children in the house.
Which cooktop suits me the best?
Gas
If you prefer to see a flame when cooking, choose a gas cooktop. This allows you to see directly how high it is switched on and if the flame needs to be higher or lower. That's useful, but it also creates a special cooking experience. If you like to cook with a wok often, then you should also choose a gas cooktop. This allows you to prepare your meal on a high flame in a short space of time. Do keep in mind that cooking with gas is less energy efficient and will become unavailable in the next few years due to climate legislation. So decide for yourself when you want to make the switch.
Induction
Cooking with induction can be unfamiliar at first if you have previously cooked with gas. You can no longer see a flame, so you can't always see how high the cooking power is right away. A clear advantage is that the cooktop only heats up directly under the pan. Another advantage of induction is that this type of cooktop is more energy efficient and more environmentally friendly. Choose an induction cooktop if you want to save energy.
