How do you save energy with a smart thermostat?
With a smart thermostat, you can save energy in various ways. In this article, we'll explain 6 functions that lead you to use less energy. If you combine these options, you can save up to 20% on your energy costs.
Allow the smart thermostat to lean from your behavior
After a while, a smart thermostat learns exactly what your daily routine is. It switches off when you leave for work, for example. And when you get home, the house is already warm. The smart thermostat learns from how you set the heating. So make sure to set your smart thermostat properly during this phase.
Let the thermostat know you're home
The self-learning function of your smart thermostat is important, but it doesn't do all the work. If you leave for a night or weekend, it still heats your house. If you turn on geofencing, your thermostat automatically knows if you're home or not. This works via the location of your mobile phone. As a result, you prevent heating your house unnecessarily and save energy.
Adjust the heat per room
Connect your smart thermostat to extra temperature sensors or smart radiator knobs to control the heat even more accurately. You can make sure that the bedroom is never warmer than necessary, and that the dining room is never heated during dinner, for example. If you want to save energy, it's important to close the doors between rooms with different temperatures.
Save more with insight into your consumption
The app of our smart thermostat gives you insight into your energy consumption. It allows you to see exactly in which situations you could save more by turning down the heat. If you set your thermostat 1 degree lower, you can save up to € 90 per year on your energy costs.
Choose the right thermostat for your boiler
There are 2 types of boilers, on/off boilers and modulating boilers. On/off boilers are either completely on or completely off. With a modulating boiler, the heat can be adjusted in steps or even continuously. And your house gets a little warmer as a result. This saver energy, because the heating isn't always running at full power. Most modern boilers are modulating. Usually, smart thermostats that work with on/off boilers also work with modulating boilers.
Connect the thermostat to your smart home
The less you heat the house, the more energy you save. With motion sensors or an intelligent IP camera, the smart thermostat knows exactly where you are in the house. A thermostat with zone control then only heats up the rooms that are occupied.
