According to our mirrorless camera expert
The Nikon Z6 II + Nikkor Z 24-70mm f/4 S + FTZ Adapter is a professional mirrorless camera with full-frame sensor. Thanks to the large Nikon Z mount with a 55mm diameter, you can catch a lot of light with the body. So, you can use the Z6 II at dark locations without problems. With the flexible 24-70mm lens, you can take portrait, landscape, architectural, and nature photos. Do you want to keep using your Nikon F lenses? This is possible with the FTZ adapter. With the light-sensitive full-frame sensor, you can take detailed photos with little noise and high contrast. In addition, the 2 fast EXPEED 6 image processors give you extra speed. So you can focus faster, process more frames per second, and measure the lighting more accurately. Thanks to the 2 memory card slots, you'll have space for a UHS-II SD card and an XQD or CFexpress card.
Smooth videosYou can record in 4K resolution at 60 fps, or in Full HD at 120 fps. This gives you smooth videos. Especially in combination with the 5-axis image stabilization, you can record stable videos. This technology corrects camera vibrations, so you can use slower shutter speeds up to 5 stops. In sport mode, your viewfinder image is stable, so you can take a photo of a quick action more easily or pan more smoothly when you're recording.
Accurate focusThe camera has 273 AF points which cover 90% of the screen. You can set the focus speed and response time, so you can record different creative video images, like focus pulls. You can turn off the focus sound completely, which is useful if you're recording or taking photos at a wedding.
Flexible lensThe focal length of the lens makes it suitable for landscape, portrait, and macro photos. With the short 0.3m focal distance over the entire zoom range, you can have full control over you close-ups. That way, you can capture the smallest details. Thanks to the f/4 fixed aperture, you can keep your lighting the same when you zoom in with the lens.

This is my first Nikon and camera of this type and level. I consider myself a beginner and I bought this camera to pursue my sky shooting & astrophotography interests. I have previously owned a DSLR (Sony Alpha 300 series) and after 7 years of hiatus I decided to get back to photography and bought a point & shoot (Sony RXM5A) to re-learn the basics and see if I was ready or not to jump to the mirrorless camera bandwagon. Cause let’s face it, mirrorless aren’t cheap nor something you buy and tuck away after you get bored with them.
I love my Sony RXM5A but after months of extensive use and pushing it to its limits with the mag filter adapter + wide angle lens + solar threaded + infrared + ND filters, I decided I was ready to upgrade. I considered getting another Sony but Nikon/Canon are more recommended for astrophotography and never been a fan of Canon aesthetics so the obvious choice was Nikon. I bought the bundle with FTZ adapter + 24-70mm at a discount and it wasn’t cheap but it was a good deal as buying each separately is way more expensive. I didn’t really want or need the FTZ adapter but it was the only bundle available in stock.
Anyhow, this camera is a beast, very light weight, grip is super comfy (I have small hands), the ease of use, buttons & menus (Nikon > Sony) and image quality are mind blowing. It’s a truly incredible piece of equipment, far more superior and easier to get a hold of than DSLRs and I truly can’t wait to learn all the bits & pieces of it.
If you are a beginner or a photography enthusiast like me and looking to get into the hobby, get a point & shoot first (highly recommend Sony RX series). If after a few months you find yourself wanting to take your photography to the next level and most importantly, you have the budget (keep in mind equipment and lenses are not cheap, especially Nikkor ones) go for it!! You won’t regret it and you can’t go wrong with a camera like this. The Z6II is a true master piece and a camera used by pros so you can expect a top notch quality product that will likely stay with you for many years to come and will take your photography to the next level whether the latter is your hobby or profession.
