How do you set up the Astro A40/A50 for the PS4?

You just received your new Astro A40/A50 gaming headset. Before you can use it, you'll have to set it up first. To make the setup easy, I've created a step-by-step plan for each platform: PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Step 1. Preparations

What do you need?

  • A PS4.
  • The base station/AMP (charging dock).
  • The micro USB cable.
  • The TOSLINK optical cable.
  • A40/A50 headset (note: the headset needs to be fully charged before the first use).
Connect headset and base station

Step 2. Connect the headset and base station

  1. Connect the base station to the power grid.
  2. Line up the microphone with the microphone slot (the microphone should be folded in) and place the headset in the base station.
  3. The LED indicator will turn orange when the headset is charging. If it's not, place the headset in the base station again.
  4. When the charging status is displayed on the base station, they're successfully paired.
  5. The headset is fully charged when all 4 battery level lights are on.
Connect to PS4

Step 3. Connect to PS4

  1. Set the base station to PS4 mode. You can do this with the slider on the back.
  2. Connect the base station to the PS4 via the included micro USB cable and optical cable.
Set up sound on PS4

Step 4. Set up sound on PS4

  1. Go to Settings on the PS4.
  2. Go to Sound and Screen and then to Audio Output Settings.
  3. Select Primary Output and change it to Digital Out (Optical).
  4. Choose Dolby Digital 5.1 Ch as input format and click OK. You'll return to the Audio Output Settings.
  5. Go to Audio Format (Priority) and change it to Bitstream (Dolby).
Set up audio device on PS4

Step 5. Set up audio device on PS4

  1. Go to Settings on the PS4.
  2. Go to Devices and choose Audio Devices.
  3. Change the input device and output device to USB Headset (ASTRO Wireless Transmitter).
  4. Choose Output to Headphones and change it to Chat Audio.
