How do you clean your electric cooktop?
Clean an electric cooktop in 4 steps
Go through the following steps to clean your cooktop.
- Step 1. Remove caked-on food rests
- Step 2. Use soapy water
- Step 3. Wipe off everything with a damp cloth
- Step 4. Dry the cooktop
Step 1: remove caked-on food rests
An induction cooktop or ceramic cooktop has a flat surface. This makes it easy to remove dirt. On a ceramic cooktop, you can use a cooktop scraper to scrape off caked-on and burnt dirt. Don't use a cooktop scraper on an induction cooktop, since you'll scratch the glass. Use mild dish soap without lemon for caked-on rests. The acrid acid from the lemon may damage the cooktop.
Step 2: use soapy water
Clean the entire cooktop with a soft cloth. Use soapy water with a little bit of dish soap. Don't use an abrasive sponge or cleaner to prevent damage. Don't just clean the glass plate, but also the edges of the cooktop. Dirt may stick here.
Step 3: wipe off with a damp cloth
Isn't there any dirt left on your cooktop? Wipe everything off one last time with a damp cloth with just water. That way, you'll remove all soap rests and you won't see stripes on your cooktop. Again, don't forget the edges and cracks.
Step 4: dry the cooktop
Dry the cooktop when it's completely clean. Use a clean cloth or kitchen towel for this. This'll also help to prevent marks on the dry cooktop.
