Image quality
D80Q: Full Array Local Dimming
The Samsung Q80D has an impressive image quality thanks to Full Array Local Dimming. This technology allows for precise control of the backlight, which results in deeper blacks and a higher contrast. Stars in the night sky look very clear and don't have a shimmer around them, for example. With 4K resolution and 100Hz, the Q80D displays razor-sharp and smooth images. This is ideal for fast action scenes and sports broadcasts. The combination of these features ensures an intense and immersive viewing experience.
D70Q: Edge-Lit Local Dimming
The Samsung Q70D also has a good image quality, but with Edge-Lit Dimming. This technology only lights up the edges of the screen, which produces less precise blacks and a lower contrast. Still, the Q70D ensures clear and smooth images thanks to the 4K resolution and 100Hz refresh rate. The Q70D delivers a solid performance for everyday TV and streaming, even if the image depth and contrast don't quite keep up with the Q80D.
Sound quality
D80Q: powerful speakers and Dolby Atmos
We also noticed differences in the sound. The Q80D has speakers that are twice as powerful as the Q70D. With a maximum output power of 40W, you can enjoy a room-filling listening experience. The Q80D also has Dolby Atmos. This surround sound technology creates a three-dimensional sound experience. This is a lot of fun when watching Formula 1 or horror movies, because you're truly immersed in the action. For the best sound experience, combine your Samsung TV with the right Dolby Atmos speakers.
D70Q: regular speakers
The Q70D also has solid sound, although it doesn't quite match the Q80D. It has speakers with an output of only 20W. This means that the maximum possible volume is lower and that very quiet or loud sounds may sound distorted. The Q70D does have Object Tracking Sound, though. This technology adapts the sound to movements on the screen. This creates a dynamic sound experience as a car drives from left to right on the screen.
Conclusion
Feeling like an exciting movie night or would you rather watch a Bundesliga match? Thanks to the 100Hz refresh rate and Full Array Local Dimming, the Samsung Q80D is great for this. Dolby Atmos technology also creates an impressive sound environment that improves the TV experience even more. Are high contrasts and great sound not that important to you? The Samsung Q70D provides a great image quality for regular TV and streaming with Edge-Lit Dimming. Even though it has 20W speakers, it has a great audio quality even without Dolby Atmos.
