Expert review of the Sony WF-C500

The Sony WF-C500 are lightweight in-ear earbuds with a 10-hour battery life. The charging case gives you an extra 10 hours. I was curious about the wearing comfort and sound quality of these earbuds. In this article, you can read what I think of this product.

  • With the Sony Headphones Connect app, you can customize the sound reproduction with an equalizer.
  • The earbuds are waterproof, so you can also work out with them.
  • On a full charge, the earbuds last 20 hours.
  • The earbuds are water-resistant and not waterproof, so you can't rinse them under the faucet.
  • Due to the in-ear design, these earbuds are less suitable for long listening sessions

First impression of the Sony WF-C500

First impression of the Sony WF-C500

The earbuds come in a small lightweight charging case with a matte, transparent top. This charging case has a 10-hour battery life. The earbuds themselves also feel light in my hand. In addition, I noticed that the box the earbuds come in is made of cardboard. Sony helps reduce plastic waste this way. This box includes 3 earbud sizes and a USB-C to USB-A charging cable.

Music Sony WF-C500

High sound quality

I'm impressed with the sound quality of these earbuds. They provide a balanced and powerful sound, which allows me to enjoy different music genres. Guitar and bass sounds truly stand out with rock music. Even with electronic music, I get lost in the music because of the deep bass. In my opinion, that's impressive for small and light earbuds. Unfortunately, drums don't sound powerful. These parts lack some depth, so you don't hear them sometimes.

Great wearing comfort

The earbuds stay firmly in my ears. Thanks to the compact design, they don't stick out too much from my ears. I don't feel them as a result. Though the earbuds don't have noise canceling, I hear little ambient noise thanks to the shape of the earbuds. With short listening sessions up to 2 hours, the earbuds fit in my ears comfortably. My ear canal hurts a bit during longer listening sessions. I also get a tickling feeling in my ears.

Sony WF-c500 with the Sony Headphones app

Good connection with smartphone

With the Sony Headphones app, I can adjust the sound to my liking. I can highlight the bass with 'Clear bass' in this app, for example. I can also make vocals sound clearer or make music sound livelier. I also notice that the earbuds connect to my smartphone quickly. From the first time, the earbuds pair with my phone fast.

Conclusion

I recommend the Sony WF-C500 if you're looking for lightweight earbuds for on the bike, for example. Thanks to the balanced sound, you can immerse yourself in your favorite music. Want to close yourself off from your environment? Go for the Sony WF-C700N. These earbuds are comparable to the WF-C500, but these have noise canceling.
