Expert review of the Remington CI83V6 Keratin Protect

The Remington CI83V6 Keratin Protect is a special curling iron. It's been impregnated with keratin and almond oil, which is supposed to keep your hair soft and healthy after curling. Does this really work? I tested it for you

In short

  • The keratin and almond oil make your hair feel softer.
  • The curling iron is heated up after 30 seconds.
  • The ceramic coating protects your hair from damage caused by the heat.
  • Doesn't automatically adjust the temperature to the moisture of your hair.

Unboxing the Remington CI83V6

The box shows that the curling iron is part of the Remington Keratin Protect series. I find the following items in the box:

  • Curling iron
  • Heat-resistant glove
  • Heat-resistant storage pouch
  • Manual

First impressions

The conic-shaped curling iron has a diameter of 19 to 28mm. You can create natural curls that go from large to small with this. The curling iron has 5 temperature settings between the 150°C and 210°C, including a PRO+ setting of 185°C. In the manual, you'll find a useful table that tells you which temperature settings are suitable for your hair. On the display, you'll see the set temperature. If the temperature light stops blinking, the curling iron is ready for use.

Heat-resistant glove

Heat-resistant glove

It was quite difficult for me to curl my hair with the heat-resistant glove on. My hair kept sticking to the glove, which made it look very frizzy. It was easier to curl my hair without this glove. Unfortunately, I ended up with a little burn. So it's not recommended to do it that way if you're not used to the curling iron yet. A heat-resistant glove doesn't mean that you can grab the curling wand, this will still be hot.

Curls in half-long hair

Curl half-long hair

My hair reaches up to my shoulders and is bleached. That's why I chose to set the curling iron to 150°C. I had to keep my hair around the curling iron for about 20 seconds to create a nice curl, so I tried again at 175°C. This was a lot faster. I twisted my hair around the curling iron in alternated directions to create curls that looked as natural as possible. The curls stayed in all day, even without hairspray.

Curls in long hair

Curls long hair

I also tested the curling iron on the hair of my colleague. She has long, thick hair up to her elbow. We set the curling iron to 210°C. I chose to alternate the directions of the curls. It didn't take long to curl her hair, and the result were natural looking curls. The curls sagged slightly during the day, because we didn't use hairspray. Her hair felt softer after curling than before.

Conclusion

All in all, I'm very happy with the result of the curling iron. I'm not sure if the keratin and almond oil really make your hair stronger and healthier. But I do feel like my hair was better protected against the heat and felt softer after curling. Do you often curl your hair or do you have dry and frizzy hair? The Remington CI83V6 Keratin Protect is a suitable curling iron.
