Which built-in fridge or freezer fits in an IKEA kitchen?
Not every built-in fridge or freezer fits in an IKEA kitchen. Mainly the door system, the niche dimensions, and the front panel are important. Follow the steps in this article and check if the model that you want is suitable for your kitchen. This way, you're sure that your fridge or freezer fits well.
Choose a built-in fridge or freezer for your IKEA kitchen
Follow these steps and choose the fridge or freezer that fits your IKEA kitchen.
- Step 1: check the door system
- Step 2: check the niche dimensions
- Step 3: check the height of the bottom front panel
Step 1: check the door system
IKEA kitchens have a sliding door system. That means that the kitchen panel isn't directly attached to the door of the appliance, but moves along via guides. You open the kitchen panel and the door of the appliance opens via the guides.
That's why you always have to choose a built-in fridge or freezer with a sliding door system for your IKEA kitchen.
Step 2: check the niche dimensions
The fridge or freezer has to fit in the cabinet of your IKEA kitchen. Measure the height, width, and depth of the opening where the appliance will go. Compare these sizes with the niche dimensions of the fridge or freezer. You can find these niche dimensions on the product page.
The niche dimensions of the appliance can't be higher, wider, or deeper than the opening. Always choose for the width a model that's meant for the same niche width. Otherwise, there's extra space at the sides.
Is the IKEA cabinet higher than the appliance? You'll have extra space on top for an extra cabinet compartment.
Step 3: check the height of the lowest front panel
This is step is only important for a built-in fridge freezer combination. The kitchen front panel consists of 2 panels. The height of the bottom panel has to be the same as the bottom door of the appliance. Otherwise, the panels don't fit properly and the door doesn't open like it should.
Do you have a single-door fridge or freezer? The front panel is the same as the niche height and you don't have to check anything extra.
