Step 2: empty the dishwasher

Make sure the dishwasher is empty before you degrease the appliance. Make sure there are no glasses, plates, or cutlery left behind. Also check the filter of the dishwasher, because food rests are often left behind there. These food rests otherwise end up in the tub. You can often recognize this by a bad odor when you open the dishwasher.

Run a hot cycle

Step 2: run the hottest cycle

Choose the cycle with the highest temperature. This is often the intensive program of 70°C or the appliance cleaning cycle. Does your dishwasher not have this option? The automatic cycle of 65°C also works. Don't put any detergent or other cleaning agents in the compartment.

Open door

Step 3: open the door after 20 minutes

When the dishwasher has run for 20 minutes, you can gently open the door. Pull the door open slightly, so no water runs out of the dishwasher. The cycle pauses automatically, after which the remaining water will drain.

Step 4: mix and distribute the degreaser

Step 4: mix and distribute the degreaser

First, mix the degreaser with hot water and pour this over the bottom of the appliance. Make sure you use a degreaser that's suitable for a dishwasher. Cleaning vinegar and baking soda aren't suitable, because they damage the door seal of the dishwasher.

Continue cycle

Step 5: continue the cycle

Close the door of your dishwasher again and let the cycle run to its end. This way, the degreaser is properly distributed in the dishwasher. To prevent greasy dishes, we recommend to clean your appliance properly 2 times per year.
