In this article, we'll show you how to descale your SMEG fully automatic coffee machine. It's important to descale it. This way, you prevent it from clogging and extend the lifespan of your coffee machine. It'll automatically indicate when it has to be descaled, which is about once every 2 months.

Get started with descaling

  1. Start the descaling program.
  2. Rinse the machine.

You need:

  • Descaler
  • At least a 1.4L container

How often should you descale?

The coffee machine automatically indicates when you have to descale it. The descaling light on the top of the machine will switch on. If the light is on continuously, you can still make a couple cups of coffee. If the light starts flashing, you have to descale it before you can make coffee again. How often you have to descale your SMEG coffee machine depends on the set water hardness. With hard water, you have to descale it more often than with soft water. You have to descale the coffee machine once every 2 months on average.
