How do you choose the right size smartphone?

We look at the screen size in inches when we talk about the smartphone size. In case you don't know, 1 inch is 2.54cm. With the screen size, we mean the distances from the bottom left corner to the top right corner.

• Small (up to 6.2 inches): easily fits in your hand and pocket, but is less suitable for videos and games.
• Average (6.3 - 6.5 inches): difficult to control with just 1 hand, but still fits in your pocket.
• Large (6.6 and 6.7 inches): suitable for videos and games, but doesn't fit in your hand or pocket as easily.
• Very large (6.8 inches and larger): useful for multitasking, videos, and games, but difficult to take with you.

Small phones are 6.2 inches or smaller. They easily fit in your pocket and in your hand. That's why you can often control these models easily with just 1 hand. Small smartphones are not a good choice when you often play games or watch videos. Manufacturers don't produce small smartphones anymore very often. A small phone doesn't have space for a large battery. With a small battery, you'll often have to charge your device twice a day.

Average-sized smartphones have a screen size of 6.3 to 6.5 inches. These models are difficult to control with just 1 hand, especially if your hands are small. Average-sized phones do fit in most pockets. If you watch a video or play a game once in a while, these devices are large enough. Are you an enthusiastic gamer and do you binge a series every week? Choose a larger device.

Large phones have a screen size of 6.6 or 6.7 inches. You can't control these devices comfortably with just 1 hand. They also barely fit into the pocket of your jeans. In this case, you need to keep those smartphones in your bag. Large smartphones are useful if you often watch a series or play games, but also if you read many long texts. You won't have to scroll as often.

Very large smartphones have a screen size of 6.8 inches or larger. These screens are useful if you switch between apps often, like for work. You can open multiple apps side-by-side on the screen or you have room for a report, presentation, or image editing. Very large phones are often thicker and heavier, in addition to having a larger screen. This is often because of a special camera or because the smartphone is foldable.
