What's DJI Active Track and when do you use it?
With DJI Active Track, the camera of your product follows a subject. You can find the function on DJI drones, action camera, gimbals, and more. But what's Active Track exactly and what's the difference to Follow Me? We'll explain it. We'll also tell you when you should use Active Track.
What's DJI Active Track?
The Active Track function by DJI is an intelligent mode in which the camera of your products tracks a person or object. You can choose which object or person the camera should track. The camera uses a special Vision Recognition technique. It collects images and sound data and looks for moving objects this way. If the camera sees an object is moving, it'll automatically track it. If your subject temporarily moves out of vision, it'll continue tracking when the subject is visible again.
What's the difference to Follow Me?
Follow Me is a function that only DJI drones have. This function uses GPS signals to track you. These GPS signals come from the remote of your drone. With the Follow Me function, you can only track the drone pilot. The Follow Me function is actually a predecessor to Active Track. With Active Track, the drone also uses GPS signals. It combines those with the Vision Recognition technique.
When should you use Active Track?
Active Track is a useful way to record cinematic footage. The camera makes smooth motions and your subject stays in frame. If you use this function with your drone, it flies at a constant speed. Make sure there's enough contrast between your background and the subject. This way, your camera can recognize your object even better. This function is useful if you're exercising, for example. Because you stay in motion, it's harder to keep the subject in frame yourself.
