Release date: 16 October 2025
In this Pokémon game, we return to Lumiose City. We know this city from Pokémon X and Y. The city is going through big changes, where people and Pokémon live together in an open world. Your adventure starts in Hotel Z. You can roam freely in this open world game, just as in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. You can walk into buildings and talk to various characters. Collect information to uncover the secrets of the city.
New Pokémon
It's not complete without Pokémon of course. The complete Pokédex isn't known yet, but we do know the starter Pokémon. At the beginning of the game, you can choose between Chikorita, Tepig, and Totodile. They'll also add new Pokémon, but we'll learn more about those later.
Catch mechanics and Wild Zones
Pokémon Z-A is an open world game. This means that Pokémon walk around and can be caught in the wild, just as in Pokémon Arceus. Lumiose City created Wild Zones where Pokémon can roam freely. You can catch new Pokémon in 2 ways. The first way is in stealth mode. You can sneak up on the Pokémon so they don't get startled and throw a Poké Ball. Want action right away? You can fight the Pokémon to weaken them and make them easier to catch. You can also use berries and other items, which make catching Pokémon even easier.
Pokémon fights
You can fight other Pokémon trainers in turn-based battles, like we're used to from previous games. You can choose your own attack every turn, but you can also use your surroundings this time. You can avoid attacks or hide behind walls, for example. The surroundings also affect your fights, which you can use tactically. You can attack a lamppost and stun enemy Pokémon with a shock. Or you can use fast and light Pokémon during a battle on the roof, while heavy Pokémon fall through the roof.
