How does Upgrade work?
- Look for the trade-in value of your smartphone under 'Good to know'.
- Buy and pay for your new Samsung smartphone via our website or buy it in the store.
- If you buy the device in the store, we'll deduct the discount right away. Buying it online? Come to the store within 30 days. You'll receive the trade-in value on your bank account within 7 working days or the amount as CoolblueCredit in your account within 3 working days.

What's the trade-in value of your old smartphone?
We check the model to determine the value of your old device, but we also assess the condition of your smartphone. You can view how much your old smartphone is worth currently. Our expert in the store determines the actual amount you receive.
How do you prepare your smartphone for trade-in?
It's convenient to prepare your old smartphone for trade-in. Make sure to transfer all your data from your old smartphone to your new Samsung Galaxy smartphone. Remove all of your accessories as well, such as a screen protector.
How do we determine the condition of your smartphone?
Our expert in the store assesses your smartphone. They'll check your devices for damages, such as scratches or cracks. The battery and buttons should still work as well. The condition partly determines the trade-in value.

Where's the nearest store?
You can trade in your old smartphone in the store. You can check which store is nearest to you on our store page. You don't have to make an appointment, but you can if you want to.
How will I receive my trade-in value?
When you've ordered and paid for your new Samsung smartphone online, you'll get a refund of the trade-in value on your bank account or as CoolblueCredit. You only receive the amount or credit after you've traded the device in at the store. This amount will be on the bank account that's in our system within about 3 working days. Do you choose CoolblueCredit? It'll take 3 working days before it's in your account. Buying your new Samsung smartphone in the store? We'll deduct the discount from your new device right away.
Can you trade-in your smartphone without buying a new one?
Yes, that's possible. If you have an old smartphone that you no longer use, simply hand it in in one of our stores. You'll then receive the trade-in value as CoolblueCredit. This credit will be added to your account after 3 working days. You can spend it on our website or in the store. It doesn't matter what you buy with it. You can return up to 5 smartphones in one go.
Do you have to trade in a smartphone from the same brand?
No, you don't. You can trade in an iPhone to get a discount on your new Samsung Galaxy smartphone, for example. You do have to hand in a smartphone. So you can't trade in a laptop or tablet for an iPhone.
What happens to you smartphone after you trade it in?
If the device is still in good condition, we'll give it a second life. If it's not, we'll recycle the device. This makes our upgrade service sustainable and better for the environment.
Does your old smartphone have to be purchased at Coolblue to trade it in?
No, that's not necessary. You can also trade in your Samsung Galaxy smartphone at Coolblue if you've bought it at a different store.
