The nifty fifty, as it is also called, is a fast lens. This means that it can still take great photos in very poor light at a fast shutter speed and a low ISO. The advantage of this is that you don't have to shoot with a flash, so you can take pictures unobtrusively, often resulting in better pictures.

The only drawback I have experienced with this lens is that it is a prime lens. This means that you cannot zoom with it. Is this bad? No actually not. You can walk back and forth to zoom in or out. However, keep this in mind if you want to purchase this lens!

For the DX-DSLRs, you can opt for a 35mm lens, which is roughly equivalent to a 52mm lens on an FX DSLR, or a 50mm lens, which is roughly equivalent to an 85mm lens on an FX DSLR.

Auto-focus is very fast and accurate, as a matter of fact, this lens focuses much faster than my kit lens that came with camera, and I would never call the kit a slugger. This one is just faster. 1.8 aperture allows you to make photos even in poor light conditions without using a flash and the need to go to high ISOs, keeping your noise level low. Build quality is very good, the lens is made if plastic, so it's very light, but it's a high quality plastic, so it's also sturdy and should last for years.

In my eyes this lens has no cons. I might speculate about the leak of weather sealing, but since my camera is not weather sealed either, i will keep this complaint for another review. To put it short- this is the best lens your little money can buy, and this is absolutely a must, if you like to think seriously about evolving in your photography.
