I have been using the sonos connect for quite some time now without other sonos products, connected to an amplifier that provides music to all rooms. Furthermore, the device is connected via a fixed LAN network, the device works perfectly with an infinite number of possibilities of radio streams, application works perfectly wireless on apple i-phone, windows operating system and all android systems. Synology disk station also runs perfectly on it. Sound does have a delay of a few milleseconds. This is no problem at all until you want to use the audio input to connect another audio source. If you then play both separately amplified, you will hear the delay. But otherwise nothing but praise, highly recommended. I am considering buying several more to make a distinction between the various living spaces. And be able to play different sources. Maybe not the cheapest solution for a multi room audio system but it works great.

Easy to install, user-friendly, small, handy, well thought out and not cheap. The sound is nice, but can't match my existing setup. This is not that important to me because it is a small addition. More important to me is the fact that the Sonos connect cannot be turned off. There is no on/off switch. The small box gets quite warm at the top. This is only possible if (sufficient) power is used. I don't know why it gets so hot. However, I do think it is a clear flaw. I cut the power cord in a strategic place and put a switch in between. If I turn on the connect now, it takes 20 seconds before it is really connected again.
