The Sony CyberShot DSC-HX400V is the successor to the HX300. The large compact camera has no less than 50x optical zoom. You simply set the camera manually via the menus and the lens control ring. In the event of disturbing sunlight, tilt the LCD screen or use the integrated electronic viewfinder. Alternatively, you can install an app on your smartphone and use your phone as a remote control for the camera. The integrated GPS functionality is useful, as it lets you know exactly where you shot that one beautiful photo.
I was actually looking for an SLR and lens with a reasonable zoom range, but soon came up with a price of 3000 € , just a bit too much for the number of photos I take and then I only had half the zoom range of this device. A device with only advantages. (see other reviews) If you use the energy-hungry functions such as GPS and WiFi, the battery will run out faster. This makes sense and I don't see any drawbacks. In the meantime, an extra original battery with external charger (ACC-TRBX) has been purchased. (found at Sony itself) The macro capability of this device is sufficient, and considering the zoom range of this lens quite an achievement. The images are sharp enough to go even further digitally. Tip: Protecting the lens with a UV filter is essential, as it is not replaceable. (must be on every lens actually) I also provided the GGS ProScreen Screen Protector for the LCD screen, which is much better than a foil. Price/quality this is the perfect alternative. However, the original battery and charger was not available at coolbleu and I am still looking for the original lens hood. Otherwise, as always good service.

Compact camera with the possibilities of an SLR. Small but still easy to hold in the hand thanks to the handle. Powerful zoom X50 and with the image stabilization you can still take clear photos. See the two photos taken at max zoom. The device is slightly heavier than an ordinary compact, which is of course normal for such a device, so you really notice that you have a device in your hand.

After having had 2 DSLR cameras, I was tired of carrying loose lenses and was looking for a compact everything. I noticed the predecessor of this Sony (HX300) before and when I saw the announcement of this one I immediately went for it. The camera lives up to all expectations, really a beautiful camera with many options.
The wifi works very fine. Great to control the camera via WiFi or send all photos to a mobile phone/tablet on holiday and then forward them to family.
The "loose" lens as described in another review is the optical stabilizer and also works quite well. I can discover the loose lens cap as the only downside.
