I bought the Netgear R6400 about a week ago, and I'm going to give my opinion on it here.
First impression
The packaging was simple. Mainly cardboard, with the router protected by some plastic. a cat5e network cable is included, which is nice. There is also a quick start guide, the power cable and the drivers that are on a CD.
I have not used the CD, as these are easy to download from the netgear website.
The router is bigger than I expected. it is fairly wide, and looks quite professional. The three antennas on the top can be oriented in any direction to optimize reception. Furthermore, there are 5 network outputs, and 1 input. There is 1 USB port to connect external storage devices, so you can reach them via WiFi. The other USB port is for connecting a printer, making it wireless.

On the front of the router, there are a ridiculous amount of indicator LEDs, showing what is or is not connected. These LEDs shine very bright white light, and this is also the reason that I also turn off the router in the evening, because the LEDs give so much light.
Range
The range is very good, I get the most out of my internet subscription via the 5Ghz network, and very acceptable speeds on the 2.4Ghz network at longer distances from the router. the router is also very quiet. the fan makes little noise, and there is no coil whinig in my experience.
Software
The included Netgear Genie software is very good. Although the interface looks a bit outdated, it's easy to get an overview of your networks, change passwords, manage Parental Controls and enable USB sharing.
The Genie app is also a bit old-fashioned, but works properly and does the same as the computer program. it is handy that you can consult an external hard drive via the router, to create a mini NAS, so to speak.

In conclusion, I am very satisfied with this purchase. The router does what it is supposed to do, comes with all the features that the average user needs and is also not too expensive.
