According to our compact camera expert
Effortlessly send your images to your smartphone or printer using NFC or WiFi.
Thanks to image stabilization, it's easier to shoot handheld.
The camera doesn't have seals, so it's not dustproof and splash proof.
The image quality is good in relation to the price, but not excellent.
Note: we recommend an extra battery for a longer operating time.
Thanks to the simple menu with extensive options, the Canon Powershot SX620 HS is a camera that will delight both a beginner and the experienced photographer. For example, add filters to your photos for an artistic effect or shoot videos in Full HD quality. Share them quickly and easily via WiFi and NFC with all of your friends, or with your computer of course. The pop-up flash, strong image stabilization, and the 25x optical zoom complete this camera. On the camera itself, you can view your photos and videos on the large 3-inch LCD screen.
A very handy, small no nonsense camera. I already own a G7X and was looking for a camera with more zoom for our upcoming vacation. My requirements, small, light, 25-30x zoom, simple operation and quick to use, 1080P 30fps filming. I wasn't looking for a creative camera with a lot of setting options. Also considered the Sony 90v, Panasonic TZ70/TZ80, Canon sx720HS. I chose the sx620hs because of: • Weight and size (it hangs on the shoulder strap of my backpack during holidays) • Zoom range just right, much more zoom is not workable without a tripod. • Same battery/charger as the G7X so less stuff to take with you on a trip. • Works with the same canon apps. • Price, other devices are often more expensive. • Good experiences with Canon products (3x had a panasonic camera with dust on the sensor) If I didn't have a bright G7X yet, I think I would go for another device. In normal light the camera works fine, but when it gets darker you notice the limitations. The combination with the G7X is in my opinion quite good. What's good about the camera: • Simple menu, if you know canon you don't have to open the manual. • Focusing is very fast. • Photos (21mp JPEG) are beautiful in color (colorfast) and super sharp. The JPEG photos from this device are better than those from my 3x more expensive G7X. • Zoom range of 25x is fine, longer is a nice gimmic in practice, but only works with a tripod. If you use 25x zoom, you will quickly lose subjects. • You can digitally zoom in a little bit when filming, you won't notice that because the resolution is lower when filming. • Small and light (really fits in your pocket). • The automatic program works very well, which means that you can quickly take a very nice zoomed photo in auto mode. My G7X takes considerably more time and is too intimidating for the kids or my wife. • There is still something to set (no aperture or shutter speed) if you feel like it. • My wife and kids can also take beautiful pictures without any hassle. • Filming at 1080p at 30fps gives a good result. 60fps is better of course, but I'm not going to slow down the images and I don't often film action sports. Also consumes significantly less memory. (by the way, all my equipment (smartphone, gopro etc) works at this resolution and speed, which makes editing a lot more convenient) What would have been nice: • Set maximum ISO instead of fixed ISO. • RAW (but with a small sensor that is actually nonsense). • A dial to move through the menu options (photo mode). • I don't really miss touch screen. Are you in the market for a travel zoom and do you want to be able to always have the camera with you, just always be able to take good pictures without hassle. Then this is a great device. If you want to be able to get creative, post-process, take photos or film in low light, then look further. The TZ100 is a travel zoom with a 1-inch sensor and may be the device for you. This one is considerably larger and a lot more complex. In between are a lot of devices where you make a compromise on the TZ100 but do get options that are not on the SX620HS that can make the difference for you.

The Canon Powershot SX620 HS is, like all Canon cameras I've owned, user-friendly. The zoom (25x) is absurdly good and in combination with the image stabilizer you can take sharp photos yourself, fully zoomed in without a tripod. The flash has to be moved manually, this is an advantage over other cameras where this is done automatically (I have often experienced in the past that people hold the flash with their hand when they want to take a picture, which does not benefit the mechanism ). I give the flash as a possible minus, because it could break.
