Expensive blender because of design, not because of quality

Beautiful design
Not easy to clean

Somehow the blended substance gets between the cracks of the plastic at the bottom of the cup - the part you don't unscrew (is screwed on) when you clean it. Maybe not a problem if you have a dishwasher, but with hand washing you actually have to unscrew it completely to get it clean. We use it every day, so that's not ideal. It also sometimes leaks from the underside, on the engine block, during blending. It blends very well in itself, also ice cream, and of course blending makes noise, but it is so noisy that you can still hear it outside on the street when you are blending with us (1 high). All in all, this Smeg looks nice on the counter, but I think you can get a much better (perhaps slightly less hip) blender for this money.
