The Ewent EW7012 was promising upon arrival, compact, feels nice in the hand and is light. Given that the postman was a bit early (phew? or thank you? PostNL) I had enough time to experiment with my new acquisition. Its intended purpose: To recover data from my 3TB hard drive.

Plugged in straight away, carefully slipped in my ó so fragile hard drive and the familiar sound of Windows sounded that a new device had been found. Nice!

I couldn't see the drive yet, strange. On to disk management then! Much to my surprise, Disk Management only sees a 1.6TB disk and marks the disk as a "Protected GPT Partition", which is usually the mark that the disk cannot be read due to an unsupported standard. Fine, the Ewent EW7012 does not support GPT, other disks (which I know are MBR disks) are displayed as usual.

After some searching on the internet I came across the following article on the Ewent website: http://www.ewent-online.com/faq/index/quest/q/6463 which indeed confirms that GPT is not supported, too bad.

Still a nice purchase since I can now read my other hard drives, but unfortunately not an option for my 3TB Hard Drive :(
