According to our smartwatch expert
With the built-in heart rate sensor, you can measure your heart rate via your wrist.
The watch counts how many calories you burn, so you can adjust your food accordingly.
The hybrid watch reports notifications via a light vibration and a notification on your screen.
You can't control the camera of your smartphone via the hybrid watch.
With a diameter of 36.3mm, the watch case is relatively small.
The Withings Steel HR is an elegant, analog watch with smart functions that help you to stay healthy. The watch measures your burned calories and the distance you traveled every day. You also get insight into your heart rate. You can read this information on the small screen above the analog clock hands. In the accompanying Health Mate app, you can view all your data whenever you want and compare your good days to your bad days. You can also indicate how many steps you want to take per day. On the screen of your Steel HR, you can read the percentage of the steps you've taken that day. And in addition, you'll never miss a message. You'll receive notifications of incoming calls, emails, and messages.
Note: a charger adapter isn't included. Do you want to charge your watch via the socket? Order a charger adapter separately.
To clarify, this review comes from someone who had a fitbit around their wrist for the past 2 years. First a charge 2 and since last year a versa. I was impressed by what such a small device can track: heart rate, steps, sleep, distance, etc. However, the fitbit had 2 major drawbacks: design (it's clearly a fitness tracker) and build quality. Both my fitbits broke down after about a year and I was allowed to exchange the product from Coolblue (thanks for that!).
I was looking for an alternative and came across withings steel HR sport. The steel HR can do everything the fitbit can in terms of tracking, but the 2 disadvantages are not to be found here. No one will dispute that this is a (beautiful) watch in the first place. More personally, most people are surprised when you say that this watch measures my heart rate in the meantime. The build quality is also top notch, all stainless steel and glass.
As mentioned, the tracking should not be inferior to the Fitbit in terms of possibilities. He counts steps well, but I do notice that I consistently take fewer steps than before. For example, when you push a shopping cart in the supermarket, these steps will not be counted. The fitbit did. On the other hand, the Fitbit sometimes counted steps when I was just working at my desk. The withings don't do this. All in all, the pedometer is certainly sufficiently accurate.
Heart rate tracking is smooth. There is a tracking every half hour after which the watch estimates the heart rate in between. When you start an activity, the tracking is constant as you would expect. The measured heart rate is also accurate.
Sleep tracking is fully automatic and uses your movement and heart rate. The app shows your sleep in the morning in different parts: light sleep, deep sleep and awake. Moreover, the information is linked together in 1 score so that you clearly know whether you have had a good or bad night. Compared to Fitbit, I find the sleep tracking a bit less accurate, but that is mainly a compliment to Fitbit, as they have mastered this part almost perfectly. The Steel HR is still doing very well. The overall sleep score is also something that fibit doesn't have yet.
The free health mate app keeps track of all info and is easier to operate than fitbit. The synchronization is also more reliable than Fitbit. In terms of functionality, the app is hardly inferior, everything is accurately tracked and clearly presented. With a sports activity such as walking or cycling, it is also possible to connect your smartphone to the watch so that the latter can use GPS (= connected GPS). This provides a detailed overview of distance, speed, etc. The VO2 max score can also be calculated. The only drawback with these sports activities is that the screen is difficult to read in direct sunlight.
The app also allows you to select notifications that you want to see on the watch. All apps are supported. Keep in mind that the screen is small and that long text can take a while to complete. You will also get a vibration at the time of the notification.
Another useful feature is the silent alarm clock. This means that the watch will wake you up by means of vibration without, for example, waking up your partner next to you. Simple but handy!
Then we come to the 2 biggest advantages: design and battery life. For the design I refer to the photos, as you can see this is a really nice watch in the first place. The possibility to change straps (20mm) is definitely a plus. You can buy any strap and it will fit.
The battery life is the Achilles heel for many fitness trackers. This is precisely its greatest strength with the HR handle. The battery life of 20 days to 25 days is not an exaggeration. I've had the watch on my wrist for 12 days now and the battery still has 56%. It's really a pleasure not to have to constantly pay attention to this. This is a great advantage, especially when traveling, yet 1 less charger in the suitcase.
Conclusion: This is a stylish watch that has hidden talents in the form of fitness tracking. In terms of possibilities, the watch is not inferior to a Fitbit and in terms of design and battery life it is miles ahead and this for a lower price. Recommended.

Does what many other smartwatches do, and more. but not such a bulky and ugly thing with those horrible watchfaces... and exaggerated bling. In short, a very nice stylish watch that is also smart. Hopefully he will get more software applications and third party apps, whatsapp support has been announced.
