According to our bike navigation expert
The system speaks instructions out loud, so you can keep looking at the road.
You can connect the navigation system to sports apps such as Strava and Strava Live Segments for additional analyses.
Points of Interest shows useful places on your route such as campsites, toilets and restaurants.
Because the selection buttons are at the bottom of the screen, you could find it difficult to operate the bike navigation system in certain mounts.
With the Garmin Edge 1030, you as a sporty cyclist can navigate smoothly throughout Europe. Thanks to Trendline Popularity Routing, you'll have access to the most popular routes both on and off-road. Because you connect the Edge 1030 to your smartphone, you'll receive incoming calls, messages, and notifications on your bike navigation. Want to explore new Strava categories? Thanks to the Category Explore function, you'll stay informed on interesting new routes. The Edge 1030 also warns you when you're approaching a sharp curve. This way, you'll return home safely. Is your navigation system full of maps? Expand the memory up to 2TB with an SD card.

I had a Garmin Edge 100 so far that I was very happy with. Since a good friend wanted to buy this one, I had to look for another one :-) Because I was satisfied with Garmin, I opted for the 1030. What a device! Live Segments, Hassle-Free Strava Linking, Ability to Find Friends Live.

After the Garmin 800 and the Garmin 1000 now switched to the 1030. So far very happy with it. The integration with accessories such as heart rate monitor, cadence and speed meters and even my power meter (from another brand) are perfectly arranged. I even bought the rear view radar. Best purchase ever. Never again be surprised by oncoming traffic... Operation is quite intuitive, simple enough for beginners, but for the advanced user there is a lot of extra to be found. I am personally very satisfied with the data collected after each ride about training effectiveness, recovery time and advice on training intensity. Compared to my old 1000 (which is used by my wife) the GPS fix and accuracy has also been further improved and the software updates from Garmin come regularly so you know that you are always up to date. This Garmin now also has built-in fall detection. With this, especially if you often go out solo like I do, you are assured of help if you fall. The only weak point appears to be the attachment method with which you attach the Garmin to a handlebar mount. It was damaged fairly quickly, but has since been replaced neatly and quickly by CoolBlue under warranty.

The hardest part was connecting my strava and Garmin Connect accounts (and that was easy too) and then it was cycling and going. The strava segments challenge you every time, so you train just a little more every lap...
There are many, many options on the 1030 and setting them all up is difficult because options are hidden in somewhat cluttered menus. If you are used to Garmin gear less of an issue.
There is a lot of measuring and you also get a lot of feedback on how your training was and such. What's unfortunate is that for the really cool stats you need a power meter. Immediately makes you greedy again so watch out, with only this toy you are not there!
I have tried the option to set up laps at home (and it works fine), but I have not yet cycled such a lap. I don't know yet if it makes for nice trips. You give distance and first direction -wind!- and you get three options.
