According to our projector expert
The Optoma HD144X displays movies and series sharply. This DLP projector supports a Full HD resolution, so you won't miss any details. The 23,000:1 contrast ratio provides a broad color range and deep black levels, so you'll see true-to-life images. The 2 HDMI inputs allow you to connect 2 devices at once, such as your Blu-ray player, digital decoder, or game console. If you use the projector to game, you'll benefit from a low input lag. This minimizes the delay between the controller and what's happening on screen.
Note: the remote control also works with other projectors, so some buttons aren't suitable for this projector.Sharpness | Full HD (1080p) | |

It is one of the best in its class in terms of quality. I first looked at the optoma HD142x. It has very good reviews. Looking a bit further, I found out that since the end of 2017 there are also a 144x and 143x available. They are therefore somewhat newer, but in a comparable price range. The 144x has a bit more lumens (3200 compared to 3000). Other than that they are very similar as far as I can see. Compared to my old beamer, the image quality is much better. The old beamer was also 10 years old. Especially the colors and being able to see in light is fantastic. I've hung it in a predominantly dark room, but I'm sure it's not necessary. Sound is not disturbing when you are watching a movie or series. If there is nothing on it you will hear the cooling. Too bad it doesn't have a real shutdown button. You have to remove the plug otherwise it will remain in standby. And I don't think that's the point. I have put to a switchlar on the socket.

I had high expectations before purchasing this projector, but since I got it I've spent almost every hour I used it with settings to improve the image display. First of all, this is my first beamer and I'm used to the high image quality of OLED and good LCD screens so maybe my expectations are not realistic. What disappoints me the most is the contrast. What you as an average beamer user will be plagued by anyway is the fact that the projection image illuminates your room and thus the contrast greatly reduces, because on a white wall black will be far from black, in contrast to a good TV set. Anyone who has the space to set up a separate room for it can of course counteract this effect by painting all walls and ceilings dark or otherwise preventing reflection, but this is not possible with average living room use. But then the contrast of the beamer itself, which is also quite disappointing in dark scenes, there is then a huge difference between the black values in the image (which are just greyish) and the surrounding wall where no projection stands out but is just almost black because it is a dark scene and so there are no reflections from the surrounding walls and ceiling. I can imagine that it is not a problem for some people, but if you are image critical this is really annoying, especially in dark scenes. Furthermore, the beamer can only be used in eco-modes because on the light modes it is very noisy due to the fan that then starts spinning very hard. As a result, the image is sometimes on the dark side. In addition, at different image settings, where colors, brightness and contrast are increased somewhat, I sometimes see noise, or distortion of the image, which occurs because the source material cannot have that amplification well, just like you edit a photo on a computer excessively, for example. image falls apart or you get noise. As a result, you can actually only use the 'reference' mode safely as an image setting, which is sometimes okay, but partly due to the eco mode on the dark side. With this I have said everything that I do not like about this projector. For those who have not had a beamer before, yes, there is also a positive side to it. Size matters, as far as image is concerned! A large image initially makes a lot more impression and you sometimes see details that you otherwise would not see because everything is magnified much further. Also nice to present homemade material such as photos and videos. If I had to choose again now I would look for a place where I can see beamers in operation, no idea where. But going by what they say on the internet, no. And as a final warning, I was also influenced by beautiful projection images on YouTube of this beamer in my opinion before purchasing. However, this is very misleading because if you make a movie from a projection image, the contrast in that movie, if filmed in a dark room, will automatically be much higher than t is in reality because the camera automatically adjusts its shutter speed to the bright image and therefore black values appear much blacker than they actually appear. So don't base yourself on YouTube images for that matter!

First time I buy a beamer so little to compare, but certainly satisfied with it. Nice sharp and light image, good contrast.
