According to our smartwatch expert
Thanks to the integrated speaker and microphone, you can make calls via your smartwatch.
The integrated heart rate sensor measures your heart rate from your wrist.
Thanks to the GPS sensor, the smartwatch shows your speed, distance traveled, and route.
The Apple Watch Series 3 doesn't have an Always On display, ECG, or blood oxygen sensor like the Apple Watch Series 6.
A connector isn't included, so you can charge the watch with the charger adapter of your smartphone or order a charger adapter separately.
With the Apple Watch Series 3 38mm Space Gray Aluminum/Black, you stay active, motivated, and connected with your friends and family. The OLED screen is clear, but 30% smaller than the screen of newer models. The smartwatch has a GPS sensor and altimeter. This allows you to view the altitude and route traveled in addition to your distance and speed. With the Apple Watch Series 3, you communicate with Siri from your wrist. The built-in heart rate sensor measures your heart rate throughout the day. This way, you can learn more about the intensity of your workouts and about your recovery. You can easily view and answer incoming calls, messages, and notifications. The Apple Watch Series 3 is completely waterproof, so you can also wear it while swimming. For important health functions, such as fall detection or an blood oxygen sensor, you'll need a newer model, such as Apple Watch SE or Apple Watch Series 6.
Note: an adapter isn't included. Do you want to charge the watch via a socket? Use the adapter of your phone charger or order a separate adapter.
This Apple Watch is suitable for a wrist circumference of 13 to 20cm. Note: to use the Apple Watch, you need iPhone 6S or newer with iOS 14 or newer.

Apple Watch Series 3 is a good basis for an Apple smartwatch, because I read all my messages on it and I can exercise with it. The screen is small and the watch is slower than newer Apple Watch models.
Small, angular screen Although this 42mm case doesn't differ much in size from the 44mm case of Apple Watch Series 5, 6 and SE, I notice a clear difference in the screen. With Apple Watch Series 3, there is still a lot of black around the screen. The screen also has sharp corners, instead of corners that are shaped to the watch case. The screen is 30% smaller than that of a newer model, which makes reading messages a bit more difficult. Series 3 doesn't have an always-on display, so I clearly have to turn my wrist to see the time. Apple Watch Series 3 is also slightly thicker than the newer models.
Right size for every wrist For my narrow wrist (about 16 centimeters in circumference) I think the 42 millimeter clock is too big. A watch like this looks better on a wider wrist, I think. Apple Watch Series 3 is also available in 38 millimeters. I think that size looks better on my wrist. The Milanese strap I tested is very easy to adjust in length thanks to a magnet on the end. The strap always fits well and I take it off very easily. In addition, it looks chic and festive. When I exercise, I put the original silicone band back on the Apple Watch.
Optical heart rate monitor, useful during exercise Apple Watch Series 3 has an optical heart rate monitor that continuously monitors my heart rate. The Apple Watch also tracks my heart rate during exercise. For example, afterwards I see in the Condition app on my iPhone how my heart rate changed during exercise. Several sport profiles are available on Series 3, but individual fitness workouts such as push-ups or crunches are not among them.
Download only the most important apps I also receive messages from WhatsApp on Apple Watch, for that I don't need to download an app on Apple Watch. Fortunately, because this Series 3 only has 8 GB of storage capacity. I prefer to use it for my main workout apps, the NOS app and the NS travel planner app. There's still room for a few Apple Music playlists, but not all the apps I use on my iPhone.

I come from a Samsung Galaxy Watch, but due to the switch to an iPhone I decided to get the Apple Watch series 3. I like it very much, the OLED panel that is incorporated in the Watch is of very high quality. Due to this OLED screen, black colors are deep black and this gives a very fine image in the dark. The design is very light and looks better than I expected. At first I was hesitant to get a series 5, but for the difference of 200 euros, this series 3 has everything I need in daily life.
I myself use Strava as the app to keep track of my sports, thanks to the activity app that is automatically already on the smartwatch, I no longer have to worry about synchronizing with Strava. When the activity is finished, Strava asks in the notifications if I want to import my activities and with one click my activity is on Strava.
In addition to receiving your notifications and keeping track of your agenda, this watch is very handy and accurate during exercise. I swim a lot myself (often in a 25m pool) the watch accurately measures the number of lanes I swim to 25m and also knows which stroke. At the end of the activity, he blows the water out of the speakers with a tune and the watch is ready for use after training. If you look on your mobile you can see the number of meters, the time per 25/50/100m and how many strokes you have made.
Besides swimming I also cycle. I use a bicycle clock with a heart rate belt. I have ridden a ride with the watch and the bicycle clock and the data that came from the watch corresponds very well with the bicycle clock. This was a lot less compared to the Samsung.
A smartwatch remains a luxury product, but if you want to keep track of your notifications and your agenda during work and then track all activities during exercise, this is the perfect Watch to purchase. By using the smartwatch you use your mobile a lot less and this provides peace of mind.
