Ordered yesterday together with a set of Pioneer bluetooth speakers and delivered everything to home today, thanks Coolblue for the fast service (in corona times)!
This set costs slightly more than the Pioneer speakers, but you also get much more (sound) quality in return.
The other speakers I had mainly bought as budget speakers to use as a DJ monitor, I consider the KRK set a class higher than entry-level or budget and will be used as a "studio monitor" with a PC.
In the meantime, almost 20 years of experience in the music world, rarely been so pleasantly surprised with the quality of speakers. (usually vice versa) The set works perfectly without a subwoofer, it is not a must, but it would add value for EDM or certain electronic music genres. (depending on which low frequencies are used).
There is a very slight noise only if you don't play any sound, as soon as you play sound/music (however quiet) this noise is completely gone. For me, that's not a real downside, but it should be mentioned.
For those who experience noise when playing music, tip: turn the volume of the speakers as quiet as possible and louder on your sound source (not vice versa).
How you experience the sound is always partly personal, but you can clearly hear a difference between cheap/bad speakers and quality speakers such as this KRK.
I often see reviews of people who think the sound of their purchased speakers is "fantastic", while the sound of it (in my opinion) is nothing compared to speakers like this one.
Judging by written reviews or via Youtube, it is also difficult to judge the quality of speakers, but in my opinion the sound of these speakers is perfect for studio use.
Its strong point is the higher/sharp tones, so that you can very well distinguish the instruments in the music, you hear an extra dimension, as it were.
Of course there are always better speakers (if you spend more money) but I think these speakers give an unbelievably good sound for the price.
Small remark in terms of connection, you are limited to XLR or TRS (= tip, ring, sleeve) input, but this is normal for this type of speakers. I don't expect bluetooth or RCA either. The cable I use is a mini jack (connected to headphone output) to 2x jack and this works perfectly.
