According to our headphones expert
With the Sennheiser Momentum Wireless you can listen to your favorite music on the move. You can connect the headphones wirelessly via Bluetooth to your smartphone or tablet. Thanks to the aptX Bluetooth profile, you can stream music in high quality. Do you suffer from ambient noise and noise? If so, switch on the noise canceling. This technique dampens disturbing sounds around you, so that you can listen to music in peace. Because the noise canceling is adjustable, you can determine precisely how much ambient noise you mute. Via NFC, you can quickly connect the headphones to your smartphone. Hold the NFC of both devices together and they will connect automatically.
Sound according to the expertThe sound of the Momentum Wireless 3.0 places a strong emphasis on the bass sound. The factory settings of these headphones emphasize the low frequencies very emphatically, so that bass sound can't be missed. The frequency range responsible for the representation of instruments is balanced. This means that instruments and vocals sound like the artist finished the song in the studio. Do you like a different sound? Use the equalizer and adjust the sound to your own taste.

Sound quality is by far the most important to me. Some headphones that sound very good at first glance don't do that after listening a bit better/longer and then start to irritate me. Some are good for some genres, but can handle tricky ones with other genres. These headphones have super audio quality and are excellent for just about all genres. The sound quality is not the absolute best you can get in everything, but for a wireless noise canceling closed back headphone the sound is really excellent. What can be done better? There are headphones with even more bass control, slightly tighter bass. The bass of this Senn can also dominate just a little bit depending on the sound track. However, the bass really goes super deep and different bass contributions are usually easy to distinguish. I have also heard headphones that are even better able to generate emotion, but there is often another weaker point. Even with noise cancellation on, the sound isn't much worse than without noise cancellation (and the little detail you lose isn't audible anyway in loud environments where you need noise cancellation). It's high-level criticism, these headphones just sound really great.
What I also really appreciate is the use of solid materials and genuine leather. The choice of materials from competition from Sony and Bose is a big minus for me (although it makes those products a bit lighter and in some ways more comfortable). Genuine leather also remains absolutely superior in "moisture management". The only real area for improvement is that I would have appreciated a little more foam in the headband and I feel that for comfort it would have been better not to build the headband from two parallel cushions, but one wider one.
How is the practice with longer use? I have worn the headphones from Amsterdam to the US and back almost continuously there and back. No significant irritations, not in fit and not from the sound. Incidentally, films also sound really amazing, the almost infinitely low bass really grabs you in many films. The noise cancellation also worked well on the flight and in the train from Schiphol home.
And what is also really well implemented is the bluetooth. Connecting two devices at the same time, builds connections quickly and never problems with a connection. What could be a little less sensitive is the detection that you take off the headphones, sometimes he thinks you take the headphones off, while you only move it a little bit on your head.
I mainly listened to this Sennheiser next to the B&W PX as a direct competitor. In my opinion, the PX is slightly superior in sound quality for classical music, slightly tighter bass (less and less low going) and just a little more emotion. But with rock music, my other much listened to genre, the result is a bit more mixed. Sometimes very good, sometimes a bit sharp and irritating. I think the PX is even more beautiful in design and finish, but clearly less comfortable and the bluetooth performance is also a step below the Sennheiser.

I've been debating between this one and the Sony mk3 for a long time. Absolutely no regrets about my choice, fantastic lows and razor sharp highs. Sublime noise canceling and especially the wearing comfort is of absolute top class. Everything is wonderfully soft and remains surprisingly cool when worn for a longer period of time. This was my big advantage over the sony or the bose qc35. Great headphones for listening to music at home and regularly on the go.

Sound: Wow, what a great sound. I was already a fan of Sennheiser's sound and thanks to the Momentum 3 I am even more so. A beautiful, crystal clear and full sound. Good, but not dominant bass. Excellent mid-range and very clean highs. I especially listened to the new album Tool (alternative hard rock) in AAC quality and I was blown away by the sound. Soft parts in the music are clearly audible without a background noise and when the guitar violence erupts, it remains pure for a while.
Design: Design is of course very subjective, but I really like the retro look. The headphones are very sturdy. Beautiful materials have been used and the headphones do not creak. I also think the physical buttons are a plus. I have already read in several reviews that the touchpads from Bose and Sony react poorly with gloves on. However, I have not tested this myself.
Fit: The big disadvantage is the size of the headset. The headphones are very large and stuck out a lot on me. For example, I couldn't get the hood of my jacket over my head anymore. The headset isn't water-resistant or waterproof, so that's a drawback. In addition, the headset is very tight on your head and ears. That's good for passive noise cancelling, but I found it unpleasant.
Battery life: Battery life is a lot less than the competition, but 17 hours is more than enough for me.
Noise canceling: I found the noise canceling to work fine, but it seems to be less than Sony or Bose, especially for airplanes. Now I don't fly often, so that's not an issue for me. What unfortunately turned out to be an issue for me is that the noise canceling made me very nauseous. I noticed it within 5 minutes. I kept trying, but kept coming back after turning it on. You can turn off the noise canceling, but due to the sleek design and therefore tightly closed ears, I continued to suffer from it.
Smart control app: the app can be an addition, but the connection keeps dropping. Hence a point of frustration. Finally stopped using the app. The lost connection was with an iPhone X. It may work well with another type of phone.
Conclusion: If you can tolerate noise canceling and like large headphones, then the Sennheiser Momentum 3 is definitely recommended. The sound is fantastic. In my opinion better than the Sony and Bose from the same price range. Unfortunately, I returned the headphones with great reluctance. It was too tight on my head and noise canceling was not made for me, but what a sound!
