According to our television expert
Thanks to the 10-bit panel, this TV lets you watch realistic and colorful HDR images.
The Android TV operating system brings live television, apps, and Internet together in a clear overview.
Ambilight illuminates the wall behind the TV in the colors of the image.
Due to the 50Hz refresh rate, fast-moving images aren't always displayed smoothly.
With the Philips The One 58PUS8505, high image quality and useful functions are guaranteed. The 4K resolution and the 10-bit panel allow you to view sharp, colorful images. This way, you don't have to miss any detail and you can also see the subtle shades in shadows or a blue sky, for example. The P5 processor improves the image from any source, so you always have the best possible image quality. Via the Android smart platform, you have access to a wide range of apps in an orderly menu. This way, you can easily stream your favorite movies and series. Thanks to Ambilight, your viewing experience will be even better. This technique shines light in the color of the image on the wall behind the TV.

Design
After the easy installation, I notice that the Philips The One immediately stands out because of its sleek design. The TV stands very firmly on the foot, which, like the edge, has a matte silver color. With the smaller sizes of The One, the foot is rotatable. The larger 65 inch version I am reviewing does not have a swivel base.
After some settings change nice color rendering In terms of image quality, I notice that images are very sharp and clear. Although some colors seem a bit too bright or unkempt at the beginning, I like the color reproduction after changing a few settings. HDR images in particular have clear subtle color tones thanks to the HDR support. Black parts of the image look good dark for an LED TV. Another advantage: due to the reasonably high brightness, you can also safely watch TV in a brighter room, without the image losing contrast.
Ambilight is a nice addition to most images The three-sided Ambilight works quickly and precisely. I find that the lighting on the wall behind the television in the colors of the picture works well, especially if you are watching TV in a dark room. When you get tired of the Ambilight, you can turn it off or less bright via the settings. I like that, because it's not equally impressive with everything you look at. For example, if you watch a film with many dark images, Ambilight mainly shows white and gray light.
Standard sound, little bass While the more expensive LED televisions in the Philips line have a soundbar, The One has to make do with 2 built-in speakers. That is why the TV does sacrifice some sound quality here. For normal use, if you mainly watch live television or sports, the sound is fine. I notice that voices sound clear and can be heard clearly. As a movie buff, I do miss the deep bass tones. That is why I definitely recommend using a soundbar with this TV.
Clear smart menu The Android smart menu is extensive and I find the operation smooth and simple. The apps I use most, such as Netflix, YouTube, and Disney+, are already installed. The remote control fits comfortably in the hand and feels sturdy. Philips OLED televisions have a remote control with a QWERTY keyboard on the back. I do miss that convenience with The One's remote control.

After long hesitation, we ordered the 65-inch Philips The One (2020). We have never regretted our purchase. A really beautiful TV that seems to float because of the beautiful design. Most importantly, of course, is the image quality which is so phenomenal, so clear and sharp! I would recommend this TV to everyone. The installation is also done in no time. The advantage of this TV is that all my favorite apps are supported. Now I can access all apps at the touch of a button. An extra plus to this TV is the built-in chromecast.

Despite the fact that it is a 50 hertz TV, the image quality is very good. 4k content is beautifully rendered. Installation is very simple and you don't really need a manual. The link with the hue bridge was also surprisingly quick and easy and works perfectly.
There are no real downsides for that price. Yes it can always be nicer and better, but isn't the grass always greener on the other side?
