According to our headphones expert
Active noise canceling reduces distracting ambient sounds and noise.
With Surround Sound, you can watch movies via Apple TV on your iPhone or iPad that sound just like you're in a movie theater.
Thanks to the double H1 chip, the headphones automatically connect to your iCloud devices and you can listen to high sound quality.
The headphones can't be folded to a compact size.
The headphones weigh 384g, so they might feel heavy on your head.
Isolate yourself from your surroundings with the Apple AirPods Max. These headphones reduce disturbing ambient noise via noise canceling. This way, you can focus on the music and on what you're doing. This is ideal for busy places, such as the office and public transport. With Surround Sound, you can listen to spatial audio while you're watching your favorite favorite movie or series via supporting apps on your iPhone or iPad. An explosion sounds loud and comes from all sides, so it feels you're in the movie theater. The double H1 chip by Apple ensures that you can listen to a high sound quality and that you can connect the AirPods to all your iCloud devices quickly. The headphones last 20 hours on a full charge. Is the battery empty? After 5 minutes of charging, you can listen to music for 1.5 hours.
Sound according to the expertAirPods Max don't enhance the low frequencies nor the mid-range frequencies. The frequency response is reasonably neutral, so you can enjoy balanced audio. The bass sound, instruments, and vocals aren't boosted. Because there's no equalizer included with these headphones, you'll have to do with the factory settings.
Note:Apple does include a charging cable, but no charger. Use your current accessories, or purchase them separately
Note: at the moment, only some movies and series on Disney+ and Apple TV+ support Surround Sound.

We know AirPods as earbuds, but with AirPods Max, Apple has launched their first headphones. It has top-class noise canceling, a clear and powerful sound and has a luxurious appearance. Because the headphones have a luxurious look, they are less user-friendly.
Top class noise canceling When noise canceling works well, I think it's a nice addition to headphones. With noise canceling, disturbing ambient noises are muffled. With some headphones this works better than others and with AirPods Max this works great. I don't hear anything from my surroundings. On the train, in the supermarket, outside on the street. I enjoy getting lost in my favorite songs.
Clear, powerful sound The sound of AirPods Max is exactly what I like. Powerful, but not overpowering. For example, a bass guitar sounds extra deep, but I still hear a lot of detail in the voice of a singer. All tones are given space to be heard, which makes it a joy to listen to music. When I watch a movie with the headphones, the sound is spacious thanks to Surround Sound.
Luxurious appearance The headphones are made of luxurious materials. The ear cups are made of anodized aluminum and the ear cushions are made of memory foam. This gives it a luxurious look in my opinion. It is slightly less user-friendly due to this luxurious appearance. For example, the headband feels fragile, there is no on/off button and you cannot fold the headphones compactly. This makes it less easy to fit in my jacket pocket or backpack.
High wearing comfort The memory foam of the ear cushions ensures that the headphones sit comfortably. With most headphones, my ears or head hurt after 2 hours, but this is not the case with AirPods Max. Only during extra long listening sessions, of about 4 to 5 hours, do I feel a pressure around my ears.

I use these airpod over the ear headphones for working from home and traveling. This is a full click better (and more expensive) for both uses than my current setup. When working from home: very easy automagic switching between MacBook and iPhone, plus good built-in microphone and sublime noise cancellation. (huh what?)
When traveling; brilliant sound quality (never heard better), smart efficient case, no need to carry charger need extra charger to carry, and very comfortable to wear
Most special is the finish (is this a word?): the cover, the buttons, wearing comfort, use of materials, really super premium. Really feels like a gift. This is absolutely recommended.

I bought these AirPods max because I have significant hearing loss in my left ear. Within the health app, Apple has the option to read in your audiogram from your ears and use it with the headphones. This means you no longer need a hearing aid when you wear headphones. This is really great because hearing aids (and I have the most expensive from Starkey) work great, but not with headphones. Then you can play around with balance and equalizers, but your own audiogram is simply the best to have the sound controlled. The automatic tuning allows me to hear full stereo again and I can watch and listen to movies with Dolby Atmos (only with iPhone 12 and Apple iPad Pro, but the Mac and Apple TV will hopefully follow soon). By the way, everyone over the age of 35 has to deal with hearing loss and you can also make an audiogram yourself within the health app. Unfortunately, this is not talked about enough and you often have to dig a little deeper within Apple to use these great features. For me, this (wireless) is really the best solution at the moment. During my work, I wear these headphones all day and do not use a hearing aid. The sound experience for me is just like it used to be when I had not yet suffered any hearing damage. If you turn off the noise cancellation, I hear all ambient sounds exactly as intended by the audiogram and I don't miss anything! I know that Apple is currently the only one to offer calibrated headphones with two H1 chips that make this possible. Then the price is really worth it! Kudos to Apple for this device that also fits perfectly into the "ecosystem" of Apple.
