We have had the PSG9030/20 steam generator from Philips for over two weeks now and I must admit that the size of the iron, especially the part that houses the water reservoir, took some getting used to because of its size. Especially if you are used to a standard iron.
Fortunately, you won't notice this during ironing, since you can park the reservoir with the generator nicely under your existing ironing board. After refilling, waiting a few minutes and a short beep, you can get started right away thanks to the simple operation of the device and the quick start-up. We mainly left the steam generator in automatic mode so that the built-in smart sensor makes ironing a lot easier.
The steam generator handles the differences in thicknesses with all kinds of fabrics in great detail. In this way, you can iron away sturdy materials such as denim super quickly without exerting too much pressure, and duvet covers and large surfaces are no challenge for the PSG9030/20. What is striking is that some extra guidance is needed with shirts around buttons and ruffles. Also make sure that you do not hold the lever for too long to prevent an excess amount of steam.
The intelligent ActiveSense technology ensures that you can simply leave the iron on the shelf. The hose that is attached to the iron feels fairly heavy and if you want to place the iron on a rack of the ironing board, you have to make sure that the iron does not slide off the rack. In terms of weight, however, you will not notice this during use and the hose itself is long enough so that it will not get in the way quickly.
We are very satisfied with the steam generator and we will leave the device on automatic mode thanks to the intelligence that Philips has built in. It prevents burn marks and gives you a carefree feeling while ironing.
