According to our television expert
Thanks to the OLED screen, the 10-bit panel, and the high brightness, you get images with a powerful contrast and lifelike colors.
The smart Cognitive Processor XR very quickly analyzes what you're watching and improves the image display and sound reproduction of the TV.
The Acoustic Surface sound system provides a realistic and spatial sound reproduction.
The TV doesn't have a rotatable stand to turn it toward your viewing position.
With the Sony Bravia OLED XR-65A90J, you can enjoy lifelike, bright images and a realistic sound. The OLED screen consists of millions of pixels that light up and dim individually. As a result, black parts of the image are truly black. This TV has a higher brightness level than most OLED televisions. So you won't be bothered by annoying reflections in a brightly lit room as much. The high brightness also ensures a powerful contrast and clear subtle color tones in light images, such as bright white clouds. The new smart Cognitive Processor XR analyzes the images you're watching and improves the image display, based on a footage database. This processor ensures an impressive color representation, sharp images, and smooth fast movements. Whether you're watching an exciting series via Netflix, videos on YouTube, or a soccer match, you're assured of a lifelike and detailed image display.
The processor doesn't only improve the image, it also ensures a brighter and more realistic sound of what you're watching. The TV recognizes the voice of a news anchor or dialogues during a movie, for example. The processor makes these voices sound clearer, without you having to adjust the volume. Thanks to the Acoustic Surface technology, the TV vibrates along with the speakers. So it'll seem like the sound is coming right from the screen.
I think it's always nice to delve into new techniques that are ready for the future. Likewise with a new TV. I was ready for an upgrade, a size bigger and anyway a 4K OLED television is what I wanted. With a view to my - hopefully soon - purchase of a PlayStation 5 , I wanted the best for what was within my budget (max. €3000).
After reading a number of reviews and watching videos of various TVs from LG and Sony, Sony emerged as the 'winner'. (Well, I'm a Sony fan too, but that aside.) Their products don't disappoint and the quality is usually very good. Sometimes just a bit more expensive than average, but it's worth it if you ask me.
They have a number of TVs in the XR series, even bigger than this one, but the size of this one was perfect for my situation (distance to the TV). OK, I got the t.v. Been using it for almost 3 weeks now and it is really impressive! First of all, it looks nice in the room, I think the design is very neat.
You can place it in two ways:
The most important is of course the image quality. Very short.. It's insane! When watching regular television it is good (broadcasts are HD, but that technology is also a bit on the old side. We have to wait for 4K), but it is great for Blu-Ray movies or PS4-pro gaming ! Unfortunately I don't have a PS5 yet, so I can't say anything about that, but it can't be anything but beautiful. It is a beautiful palette of color and depth and black/white ratio, which is unprecedented. Very fat!
The sound is great. Sony's "Acoustic Sound" technology is WOW. You put your TV where it belongs, you set this mode, then the TV will briefly give a number of sound signals to measure the acoustics of your room/space and adjust the sound accordingly. You do this 1 time. You really have to hear it to believe it! The sound comes directly from the screen and is directional, sound from the left is really left. There are 2 subwoofers that provide the bass. It sounds very good.
The service is fine. The menus respond quickly and the remote control is PREMIUM, nicely finished sanded metallic top. The Smart TV functions are present. All well-known (and lesser-known) apps are on it or can be downloaded. YouTube, click! And there it goes. Disney Plus, Netflix if those services are represented. You can also run Spotify and other music services on it. I never thought but now I sometimes turn on the TV with Spotify in the background because the sound is just very good. No, not better than my sound system with receiver/amplifier, but several times better than a standard TV that is not equipped with the techniques that this Bravia has.
It may be an investment this device but if you have the money for it. Do it. You are ready for the future in television. The picture is sublime, as is the sound. The design is sleek, the image has a tiny edge, very nice. The service is good. Many settings possible in terms of image and other antics. It's one of my more expensive purchases in recent years and by far the most expensive TV I've ever bought, but it's worth it!

Never had a TV that was so perfectly calibrated out of the box (Choose Custom/User).
My previous Oled the Philips 55pos9901 really had to be calibrated manually, the Sony was immediately perfect.
Sound is reasonable to good, I have the TV on a Beo Soundstage Atmos via EARC.
I go for Picture quality and this TV is really a few steps higher on the ladder. The LG G1 or the Sony 65A90J ultimately become the Sony because of the image quality.

Update on my earlier review, Fantastic. Bought the Philips 55pos901 5 years ago and really gave my wife a headache for 5 years. Tried everything with a lot of light in the room, image setting etc, etc, nothing worked. I recently read a review about the image technology of this Sony that has a high image frequency, blinking with the OLED light on or off and that this would prevent headaches. Now after 3 weeks my wife is completely happy, dolby vision, HDR whatever, no headache and that without changing anything in the settings. Dune in Dolby Vision and HDR and no more headaches!
Top Oled.
