According to our headphones expert
The high-end noise canceling greatly reduces ambient noise, so you hear a lot less of your surroundings.
When you start a conversation with someone, the music pauses and ambient noise is amplified.
You can personalize all settings via an equalizer in the Sony Headphones Connect app, including the sound.
The headphones aren't water-resistant.
Sony celebrates its 75th anniversary with this Sony WH-1000XM4 Limited Edition White. These headphones are a good choice if you're looking for smart headphones with high-end noise canceling. The noise canceling ensures that ambient sounds and noise are reduced. Turn on this function and enjoy your favorite songs without being disturbed. When you start a conversation with someone, the music automatically pauses and ambient noise is amplified. That way, you don't have to take off the headphones. Download the Sony Headphones Connect app to adjust this smart function to your needs. To adjust the sound, select the equalizer in the app. You can determine how your favorite songs sound.
Noise cancelingNoise canceling is a technology that measures ambient noise and then reduces it with a counter-noise. This way, you hear less of your surroundings and more of your music. With the noise canceling switched on, you can listen to music for 30 hours on a fully charged battery.
Wear detectionThe headphones not only detect when you start talking, but also when you take them off or put them on. There is a sensor in the left ear cup that knows when the headphones are on your ears. Did you take them off? The music pauses. Did you put them back on? The song continues.
Multipoint pairingYou can easily connect the XM4 to 2 playback devices at the same time via multipoint pairing. The headphones automatically switch between both connected devices, such as a computer and smartphone. When you play a song on your phone and then watch a video on your computer, the headphones automatically switch the connection.
Sound according to the expertThese headphones produce a powerful bass. Thanks to an accent around 125Hz, the bass is very clearly present. The mid tones are balanced, which means that instruments and vocals aren't any more or any less audible. That way, they don't deviate from how the artist intended them to sound. You can use the equalizer when you want to change the emphasis on the low, medium, and high tones. This way, you can adjust the sound to your own taste.
I've had a WH-1000XM3 for years, now that the battery is a bit behind and I really liked the white one, this one has been added. The sound and wearing comfort is certainly better compared to the XM3, the noise canceling is also noticeably better. Whether you think it's worth 100 euros more for the white color is of course very personal. The headphones are otherwise identical. It is highly recommended for home workers, frequent flyers and even music lovers! The sound is clean and quite neutral, good bass but not very heavy.
The headphones are great, not too heavy and don't get too hot, I use them for several hours every day and often whole days. The battery certainly meets the specs and the headphones themselves are built super durable. My XM3 is still in very good condition after more than 3 years of intensive use, the XM4 feels just a little better.

I already had experience with the WH-1000XM4 in a different color, and loved these headphones even then. Then I saw the white one and had to have it. It is easy to control, gives top sound, the software is easy to use, it is comfortable, nothing to complain about.
Except for the storage case. The details on it are made of some sort of rubbery plastic that looks very cheap. The other colors have a nice fabric there, but this one (while more expensive!) looks a bit undersized. It's nicely done, but the material just doesn't look that shabby.
