According to our tablet expert
The 12.9-inch Liquid Retina XDR display is even sharper and clearer than the screen of the iPad Pro (2021) 11 inches.
Thanks to the powerful M1 chip, the most demanding apps and games run smoothly and you can multitask effortlessly.
The USB-C port supports Thunderbolt, so you can connect an external monitor for more working comfort.
The Apple Pencil 2 and Magic Keyboard aren't included by default, so you purchase them separately.
The iPad Pro (2021) is difficult to hold with one hand due to the large 12.9-inch screen.
The Apple iPad Pro (2021) 12.9 inches 256GB Space Gray is a powerful and fast tablet thanks to the new M1 chip. This chip ensures that demanding apps from Adobe or 3D games run smoothly. In addition, you can effortlessly switch between different apps and use them at the same time. On the sharp and clear 12.9-inch Liquid Retina XDR display, you can work on all your creations down to the smallest details with the highest quality. The screen has a 120Hz refresh rate, so it displays animations and games smoothly. You can store all your work, apps, and photos on the 256GB storage. The USB-C port supports Thunderbolt. That means you can easily connect an external monitor or a USB-C dock for more working comfort.
The Apple Pencil 2 and Magic Keyboard aren't included by default, so you purchase these separately.
A tablet that is so good that it will be very difficult for other brands to top it. Great performance, fast storage and lots of RAM, very nice screen with well calibrated colors, and it is also a good experience for watching media content and having video calls. The only things holding this device back are the battery - which runs out quickly with the 120Hz screen - and its own software; I really hope that in the future more will be possible with the power of the M1 chip.
I've only had this tablet for a few days now. Before this, I should have tried the iPad Air 2020 for a while, and I have to say that the iPad Air 2020 is a better choice for most people if you are not a 'pro' who will use the iPad for his or her work, and even then the iPad Air 2020 will be more than enough as a secondary device. Still, the iPad Pro 11” 2021 is an upgrade in most areas, no matter how small. The sound, microphone, USB-c port, screen brightness and refresh rate, working memory, processing cores, cameras on both sides ... it's all just a tad better if you are really looking for the latest of the latest, while you also do nothing at all with the iPad Air falls short.
Pros and cons explained: +120Hz feels great to have; you won't want to go back soon
Now I can hear you asking: is the bigger screen worth it? The iPad Pro 12.9 inch 2021 has a brighter screen with local dimming zones, so HDR content will look great. Personally, I think the price difference between the 11” and 12.9” is too big to make it worth it. I also find it much nicer to have a more handy device with the 11” version, since 12.9” is very large for a tablet. In terms of accessories: the apple pencil is almost indispensable for me and a purchase that I recommend to almost everyone who wants to do more with his/her tablet than just watch videos and scroll social media. Despite its price, I also recommend the magic keyboard case, even for the 11” version I have. I was worried that the keys would be smaller on the 11” version, but this isn't the case. There are only some keys that have been made narrower to fit. It's a joy to type on when you see yourself as a power user who will use the iPad for writing.

What an upgrade to go from the 2017 iPad Pro 12.9” to the iPad Pro 12.9” 2021. Not a bulky big thing anymore, but much more manageable. The M1 is a big improvement, more memory gives me more room for complex artworks. Loading large files is twice as fast and no more stuttering with large brushes. The screen, sound and camera are much better. USB Thunderbolt will, as long as iPadOS doesn't let you do much with files, it's kind of useless.
At the time of writing, the M1 is clearly not unlocked yet. Apps don't use all the memory in M1 (that's a real shame if you have 16Gb, but also a shame about the 8Gb if only 5Gb is used due to limits set by Apple). The 2020 iPad Pro easily keeps up with the M1, it shouldn't be.
Fortunately, the difference with my 2017 model is significant, but the feeling that Apple makes me pay a lot of money for something that you can't fully enjoy is really bummed at the moment. Hopefully that will change in the near future.
The best thing about the iPad Pro 2021 is actually not the iPad itself, even if it's great, but the Apple Pencil 2. What an improvement compared to the first.
All in all, a good upgrade, but just not "you like it" due to the current iPadOS restrictions. A great tablet that is held back and opposed by the operating system.
