The JBL Xtreme 4 is a sturdy speaker that produces powerful sound. I can easily take it with me because of the carrying strap. It is quite heavy at 2.1 kilograms, so I prefer not to wear it all day.
Sound
The bass tones are strong, so I hear the beat and drums clearly. I think higher tones such as vocals sound a little less full. In the JBL Portable app I choose the Energetic Equalizer setting. Now I find the music in balance. I choose what I like to hear and also put together my own settings. Powerful sound comes from the speaker. If I set the volume to 1/3, it already sounds loud in my studio.
Ease of use
The speaker is slightly larger and heavier than the JBL Xtreme 3. I can easily take the speaker with me with the included carrying strap. I find the 2.1 kilogram speaker a bit on the heavy side. That's why I prefer not to wear it for too long on a hot summer day. For example, if I have to cycle for half an hour and still walk to the beach. The speaker is stable due to the flat piece at the bottom. I therefore place it firmly on any surface.
JBL Portable app
I personalize the sound in the JBL Portable app. I choose from JBL's various ready-made options or set my own preferences. This way I choose which tones I want to hear more strongly. I turn the low bass tones a little louder and the high tones softer, so that they sound more in the background. I keep the midrange at the default setting.
Design
The design is sturdy. The bottom of the speaker is flat and has 2 extra supporting rubbers, so that it does not roll over. I think the carrying strap is sturdy and fits the speaker well. There is a beer opener in it, which I think is a handy and nice extra. I don't like the speckles on the sides as much.
