Sony PlayStation Pulse Elite Headset

Owners of a PlayStation 3 or PlayStation 4 console often agree on one thing: the supplied headset is not exactly top quality. Fortunately, Sony itself offers an alternative in the form of the PlayStation Wireless Headset 2.0, sometimes also referred to as the Gold Headset. With an attractive price tag, a beautiful design, wireless functionality and excellent support for use with the PlayStation family, the headset scores very well on paper. Sony is also targeting the gamers among us with this headset, although the device is of course perfectly suitable for normal use.

The headset itself is well protected in a nice packaging and a nice carrying bag is also provided. There is also a Quick Start Guide, a somewhat short USB charging cable, a USB stick with which you can connect the headset wirelessly and also a regular 3.5 mm audio cable so that you can use the headphones with other devices - just think of your smartphone, tablet or an Xbox One, for example. ;) The headset is pre-charged, so you can get started right away. The small USB stick provides a wireless connection to your PS3/PS4 and the headset. You can also use it on a normal PC or Mac, the wireless functionality is completely Plug & Play and extremely user-friendly.

The Wireless 2.0 therefore uses its own USB stick instead of the regular Bluetooth, which has both its advantages and disadvantages. For example, you cannot use the headset wirelessly with mobile devices, but the connection is faster and more stable: ideal for gamers.

The first impression when seeing the headset is quite positive: Sony has traditionally brought a nice-looking product to the market with a stylish and contemporary design. The black-blue or white-blue color combination fits perfectly with your PlayStation console and the characteristic PlayStation symbols are of course also present. A microphone is not visible because Sony has neatly concealed it in the left ear cup. So you won't be bothered by an annoying separate microphone. The volume buttons and the controls can also be found on an ear cup. They are, as it were, 'processed' in the dust of the drivers, to increase the lifespan. Also handy to know: you can fold the headset to save some space and the faceplates with the well-known symbols are interchangeable to your own taste.

The wearing comfort of this headset is extremely high, mainly due to the pleasant padding of the headband and the comfortable drivers. Your ears fit completely into the drivers of the headset so that you can be completely immersed in a game or in the music. Something that struck me is that Sony really likes to use durable plastic, especially for the hinges a slightly sturdier material would have been a more logical choice. As long as you take good care of your headset it will last for years, but it is still worth mentioning. Because the headset is also quite light, you will not experience any discomfort even after a few hours. The battery of the headset lasts about 8 to 9 hours, which is certainly not bad for headphones in this price range. Charging is quite fast via the Micro-USB connection.

But the most important thing is of course the sound that this headset can produce. The sound quality of the Sony Wireless 2.0 is simply excellent and well balanced. For a wireless device that costs barely eighty euros, the sublime audio quality is a very big plus. The bass is certainly present, but fortunately not too dominant. Furthermore, the low and high tones are neatly balanced with the middle. This is especially noticeable when hearing voices, but in general there is absolutely nothing to complain about. Sound is clear, vibrant and lifelike. After several hours of The Last of Us: Remastered, Star Wars: Battlefront and Call of Duty: Black Ops III, I quickly came to the conclusion that the Sony Wireless 2.0 is a fantastic device and has an incredibly immersive value. This headset is not specifically made for music, but here again the device certainly does not disappoint and can definitely compete with competing headsets with a higher price tag.

One of the most important features of this headset is the Virtual 7.1 Surround functionality, which you can switch on or off to your heart's content. Virtual Surround certainly offers added value in games and movies - although the difference is not very big. It is true that with a headset like this you notice a lot of details in games that you would never hear otherwise: just think of falling bullet casings and the silent footsteps of your opponents. You can also determine the direction of the sounds a lot better thanks to Virtual Surround.

The developers of PS4 games are also big fans of the Sony Headset. You can download a separate application on your PlayStation 4 that allows you to select specific profiles for a particular game. For example, there is a profile for Destiny, and that ensures that your experience in combination with this headset is much better developed. You hear everything as the developers themselves would have wanted - a must-have feature and a fantastic value.

The Sony PlayStation Wireless 2.0 Headset is a fantastic device and an absolute winner. The headphones provide a very high immersion factor and are a perfect means to immerse yourself in the fantastic audio atmosphere of games. Not only gamers, but also people looking for an excellent wireless headset with good value for money will be pleased with the sound quality and comfort provided by these headphones. Thanks to the included 3.5 mm audio cable, you can also use the wireless headset with any device.

Sound quality, wearing comfort, battery life and possibilities: the Sony PlayStation Wireless 2.0 Headset has everything to be labeled as a top product.

I was looking for a headset for the PS4 and finally chose this one. This turned out to be a good choice!

The headset has a nice design and is quite light. It is very comfortable and even after a few hours of playing it stays in place. It is foldable and can be stored in a supplied cloth bag to keep it free of dust.

Connecting to the PS4 is done using a USB dongle; this will cost you a USB port. Furthermore, it is completely plug & play. Charging is done via the (supplied) USB cable (which is quite short by the way). Finally, a cable is included to connect the headset to a telephone, tablet or PS VITA.

The sound is for games in one word: top! There is a lot of 'oempf' in it and it sounds quite impressive. There is a volume control, as well as a separate chat/sound balance knob, to adjust the game sound versus chat. The chat is also really easy to understand next to the game sound.

The virtual surround option is a matter of taste; the tone does change slightly, but it does indeed sound more spacious. You can load sound profiles from the PS4 via an app. Nice feature but not done much with it yet.

The only drawback is that the headset is slightly less suitable for music, but if you use this purely for games and chatting during games, the price/quality ratio is very good!

Purchased to use for my Playstation 4, and also to listen to nice music on my laptop and phone. For the first, he's great; for the other he is very disappointing.

When you take it out of the box, it's plug 'n play: you put the USB stick in your console, the headphones connect and everything works properly right away. Via an app from Playstation you can even set it up even more using. a mixer, and select different sound profiles - absolutely great!

Positive: You can be heard clearly via the built-in microphone, you can quickly change important options with buttons on the headset itself, 7.1 surround is really fantastic when supported by your media (with games like Battlefield 1, this really makes for a great experience), it is foldable to some extent for easy portability, the volume can be quite loud, and it's wireless of course! All very nice.

Negative: The above is almost all suddenly no longer applicable when you start using it with other devices. The wireless function only works with your Playstation, the sound quality is barely better than my Earpods on my phone or laptop, and I couldn't get surround sound to work properly. Furthermore, I don't find them very comfortable if you wear them for more than 2 hours, and the headphones leak a lot of sound to your environment, which is not always nice if you - like me - have roommates in a house with walls that had paper. can be.

In short: Do you only want to use the headset for your PS4? To buy! Is it also intended to be used for your other media, on your other devices? Then I would look further.
