It is very nice that the device itself recognizes the surface and then goes completely 'loose' on the mat. The mat has never been so clean. This was noticeable when we used the device on the mat for the first time. Mountains of sand and hair filled the reservoir. If we had to mention a downside it would be the weight. But it is logical that it is heavier than an 'old-fashioned' normal vacuum cleaner. Then the weight is on the ground and you only carry the rod/hose, while with the stick vacuum cleaner you carry the entire device. In short: we are satisfied! Miele, there is none better! ;-)
