Because there is a mesh in front of the IR panel, this mesh is also heated, which in turn gives off the heat to the room. So it is a bit of a combination of IR and convection.
That means that you are also going to heat the room, not just yourself. That can be a plus or minus point, depending on what you want to use it for. In my case, it will be next to or behind my desk in the attic. So I like the fact that it heats me directly but also gives off some heat to the room.
