The GoPro HERO is a very small action camera that I take with me everywhere. I find that very handy when I travel with little luggage, for example when backpacking. I do find it a pity that I always need the app for HyperSmooth image stabilization.
Sharp images
With the HERO I film in 4K resolution. I find the images I make with it sharp, especially for such a small camera. Especially when I film during the day, I see a lot of details. I tested this camera in the darkest week of the year and noticed that the images have more noise when it is dark outside. That is why I find the HERO a handy camera for summer holidays or winter sports, when there is a lot of daylight. If I have to film a lot in the twilight or in the dark, I prefer to choose a GoPro with a larger image sensor.
Handy app
I quickly connect the GoPro to the GoPro Quik app via Bluetooth. I think this is a nice app, because it makes it easy to transfer the images I made to my phone. I also edit the videos directly in the app and, for example, make an aftermovie of all my holiday footage. I post this video on social media without needing a laptop, which is handy when travelling. The HERO does not have built-in image stabilisation. When I export the footage to GoPro Quik, the app stabilises my footage. This way, it still looks smooth. I do find it a disadvantage that I always have to use the app because of this.
Long battery life
A big advantage of the HERO is its long battery life. I film almost 1.5 hours of footage in 4K resolution. That is enough for me, because I usually make short films of sporting activities, such as snorkelling or cycling. After this, I charge the camera with a USB C cable. I cannot remove the battery from the camera, so I do not replace it when the battery is empty.
Many accessories
The HERO has the same attachment as the other GoPro action cameras. This means that there are many different accessories available for this camera. For example, I attach it to a floating tripod and take the camera with me while snorkeling. Underwater I use it up to 5 meters deep. While skiing this winter I attach the HERO to my helmet and film from my own perspective. I find the camera very versatile in use due to the large amount of available accessories.
