The fall protection prevents damage in the case of a fall from up to 1.2m. Yet, the OtterBox Symmetry isn't as thick as other cases with fall protection. In fact, it's a relatively thin and light case that easily fits in you bag or pocket. The extra sturdy edges protect your touchscreen, because the edges come up slightly higher than the screen. This prevents scratches when you place your device on the table with the screen facing down or when you drop it.
