Our digital expert will help you, but it can sometimes make mistakes, like humans do.
According to our thermostat expert
Because the thermostat runs on batteries, you can easily install it everywhere.
This thermostat works with every type of boiler.
With the smart temperature sensor, you can also measure and control the temperature in other places in your house.
You can connect the included stacking kit of this thermostat with a cord to your central heating boiler.
The thermostat doesn't work with older Tado products form the V3+ series.
You can heat up your house energy-efficiently with the Tado Wireless Smart Thermostat X Starter Pack. This thermostat is wireless, so you can easily install it everywhere. You can connect the included stacking kit to the heating with a cord. You do have to work with wiring because of the installation. Because you can't connect the thermostat to your fixed wiring, you can also measure the temperature of other places in the house like the bedroom or the sitting area. This way, it's always the perfect temperature there. You can control the room thermostat with the Tado app. The thermostat gets even more smart functions with an Auto-Assist subscription. It automatically adjusts the temperature thanks to geofencing and open window detection, for example. Thanks to this, you can save even more on energy.

Ease of assembly
After using the thermostat and four radiator valves for about two weeks, the AI Assist trial period expired. It then turned out that the only feature I bought this system for only works with a subscription! If it's warm in the living room but not warm enough in the bathroom, the bathroom valve has to tell the thermostat to turn on the boiler, even though the thermostat itself is already warm enough.
I then complained to the TADO helpdesk, and the only reason they've enabled the feature for me now is because I bought the thermostat before October 1st.
So I suspect they only hid this feature behind the subscription for two weeks, forcing everyone who buys the system from now on to sign up for a subscription. Without this feature, the smart valves are nothing more than incredibly expensive thermostatic valves.
Hopefully, someone will now come up with an alternative, for example via Home Assistant or other home automation software, so that it can work outside of the TADO app.

I'm very disappointed with Tado. The crucial limitation (that you must be able to link rooms so radiator valves can control the boiler) isn't clearly stated on the website. Without this link, which appears to only be possible with the paid Auto-Assist subscription since October 1, 2025, the radiator valves can't turn on the boiler. So, in practice, they're not a "smart" control system. I find that misleading.
Therefore, I've decided to return everything. Moreover, you don't know how the subscription costs will develop in the future, and I don't want to take that risk. It's a shame, because the product itself looks solid, but the way Tado sells it feels opaque.

I've had it for a few days now and I'm happy with it, the only feature that should be free now is the automatic geo-location, now I have to manually report home and away. I would say to Tado, update the software, the basics are good but a bit sparse.
